Why Does Days of our Lives Hate Lawyers Who Do Their Jobs?

How dare anyone go against what the good people of Salem want?

We all know that the good people of Days of our Lives love criminals. Well, some criminals. Most criminals. The entire DiMera family is happily walking the streets, despite all of their evil deeds. The same goes for most members of the Kiriakis clan, and even some “nice” people, who only committed minor misdemeanors like murder and blackmail.

Days of our Lives: It’s A Job

But let a lawyer actually do their jobs, either by trying to put those who’ve committed a crime behind bars or offering their clients the defense they’re entitled to by a little document you may have heard of called the Constitution, suddenly, they’re persona non Grata!

DOOL: Evil Incarnate

Melinda Trask (Tina Huang) is that the worst, isn’t she? The minute the Salem Police Department comes up with evidence of a crime, she sticks her nose where it doesn’t belong and tries to get that person arrested. The gall! The nerve! The chutzpa!

Just because she has evidence that says Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens) committed murder, is that any reason to hound the poor girl? And knowing that her mother tried to cover it up? Since when is that adequate motivation for breaking up Paulina Price Carver’s (Jackée Harry) victory party? So tacky!

This is like when she wanted Kristen DiMera put in prison for killing Melinda’s sister/daughter Haley Chen (Thia Megia). Obviously, she had a personal axe to grind. Just like Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) is convinced Melinda is only after Chanel because putting Lani Price Grant (Sal Stowers) in prison for a murder she actually committed wasn’t enough for her. She wants to make ALL the criminals pay. What kind of attitude is that for a District Attorney?

Days of our Lives: The Devil’s Handmaiden

Sloan Peterson, on the other hand, is actually a blackmailer. But, here’s the problem — nobody knew that when she first came to town. Back then, they were all mad at her for defending Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart), when they’d decided Leo was the one who killed Abigail Deveraux DiMera (Marci Miller).

How dare she do her job to the best of her ability. (Again, check the Constitution.) Then, to add insult to injury, Leo is furious at Sloan for daring to charge him for her work. Wasn’t just being in his delightful presence enough? What a bitch for wanting what’s rightfully hers. Lawyers are the worst, am I right, Salem?
