When the adult version of Sarah Horton returned to Salem and Days of our Lives after decades of being off the canvas, fans got to see who she had become — namely a strong and independent woman who thrived as a doctor and could take care of herself.
Days of our Lives’ Sarah Horton Can Save Herself
Yes, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) was gone for a year living on one of Kristen DiMera’s (Stacy Haiduk) island hideaways while she believed she was another feisty DAYS woman from the 1980s, Renee Dumonde (the late Philece Sampler). Like Sarah, Renee could fend for herself and was always resourceful when going after what she wanted. It was always a mistake for the show to kill her off when the character had so much potential as a vixen with vulnerabilities that made her human. Maybe that’s why a drugged and confused Sarah latched on to being Renee.
But let’s remember the Sarah that first arrived in Salem in 2018. She was engaged to Rex Brady (Kyle Lowder), but she didn’t want anything to do with him when she learned he had cheated on her. She called it quits for good after learning his one-night stand resulted in a baby. Yes, Sarah then fell for Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) and it seemed she definitely loved the company of men, but if that man wronged her, she knew what she had to do.
Xander Should Remember Why He Loved Sarah
One thing that attracted Xander Cook (Paul Telfer) to Sarah in the first place was her feistiness and take-charge attitude. While their first time together was a drunken one-night stand, he knew she was a tough woman, which is why we never understood why he had to keep the truth from her when her baby tragically died soon after birth. The truth did eventually come out and Sarah survived it. She survived thinking she was Renee and she survived believing she was five.
As far as we know as of now, Eric wasn’t trying to coddle Sarah when Xander asked him to play along with the myth that their baby never died. Why did Xander — and Maggie Kiriakis (Suzanne Rogers), for that matter — think that? Sarah is a grown woman who has heard the sad truth already and she can handle hearing it again. Maybe if Xander stopped making the mistake of trying to protect her, he’d finally get the girl.
