Nicole Walker on Days of our Lives wouldn’t know the truth if it came up to her, extended a metaphorical hand, and introduced itself with the words, “Hello, I am Truth. And you are?” When Nicole needs to lie, she lies. When Nicole doesn’t need to lie, she lies. When Nicole needs to lie down, she lies. What is her problem? Or, rather, what is her damage? We put the Salem schemer on the Soap Hub couch for a nice, in-depth rummage through her psyche.
On The Couch: Nicole Walker
Nicole (Arianne Zucker) wants so, so many things. She wants money. She wants a high-profile job. She wants the love of a man, and she wants the love of a child. She also wants to be the most beloved woman — nay, person — in town.
Nicole is currently none of those things. At best, she has a job that allows her to annoy Gabi (Camila Banus) and Stefan (Brandon Barash), her child is somewhere, wandering around her umpteenth home in her short, little life, and EJ has just forgiven Nicole for sleeping with Eric (Greg Vaughan), suggesting he is rather fond of her.
Days of our Lives: The World Isn’t Enough For Nicole Walker
But those are just most of the things she wants, not all of the things she wants. And so Nicole is dissatisfied. She knows she can’t be happy until she has everything. She also knows that the fact that she doesn’t have everything is no fault of hers — it’s society’s fault. Society has never been on Nicole’s side. Nicole can’t control her life! And because she can’t control her life, Nicole clings to the one thing she can control: Her lies.
DOOL: My World and Welcome To It
Nicole wants her world to be a certain way. When it isn’t, she doesn’t do anything silly, like work to change it. She just lies. Nicole’s lies create the world she wants to be true. And as long as she pretends that’s what it’s like, she can live in denial.
No, strike that. Nicole isn’t in denial. Nicole is manifesting. As long as she insists that the world is how she wants it to be, rather than how it actually is, then she is on her way to making it so. Without, you know, actually doing something to help it along.
