When Sami (Alison Sweeney) returned to Salem last year for the opening of Dr. Tom Horton Free Clinic and announced her engagement to Dante (Franco LoPresti), it shocked her family. However, it was also very Sami-like, so Marlena (Deidre Hall) chose to support her daughter.
Fast-forward nearly a year, and new details about Sami’s fiancé have come to light, raising red flags for Belle (Martha Madison) and Marlena. There was already concern about him because he’s part of the infamous Vitali crime family.
Learning that Dominic and Dante were boarding school roommates rightfully made Marlena and Belle wonder about Sami’s relationship. Syndney (Sydney Malakeh) didn’t help either, as she insisted she knew nothing about Dominic and defended Dante. The way Sydney looked and the words she used were clocked by both her grandmother and her aunt, too.
The Stefano Factor
It seems way too coincidental that Dante and Dominic know each other and that they are each developing roots in Salem. Dominic bought the Kiriakis mansion, while Dante will become related to many Salem residents when he marries Sami.
The thing is, though, Dante may not even know anything sinister is happening. Sydney did insist there was nothing evil or shady about Dante. DAYS has made a priority of making sure fans know he is the same as other members of the Vitali family.
Dominic has a connection to Stefano (Joseph Mascolo) that fans know for sure. The mystery man had a picture of him as well as all of Stefano’s favorite things in his house.
Speaking of his house, Belle and Chad (Conner Floyd) ended up there because of the chessboard clues. Again, the clues have something to do with Stefano, Marlena, and John (Drake Hogestyn). That means, at the very least, Dominic has a vested interest in those three people.
Whether Sami’s meeting Dante was a set-up and whether Dominic played a hand in it remain to be seen, as does how Dante really feels about Sami. Fans will have to keep watching to find out those answers.
One thing that does become clear this week, thanks to the DAYS preview video, is who Dominic’s parents are. Perhaps that will give more insight into whether Sami’s relationship with Dante is part of a larger master plan.
