When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.
Days of our Lives: A Critic’s Week In Review
The more I watch Days of our Lives, the more I ask myself what’s the point…and no soap opera should leave a fan with that question on their mind.
What was the point of DevAllie ruining the gender reveal cake? I could maybe understand if it was a delaying tactic because the Devil has always employed those in the past – remember when MarDevil rigged that chandelier to collapse during Bo and Billie’s wedding? – but after making everybody jump up in horror DevAllie just went, “Hehe it’s cherry filling, BTW the Weston’s are having a boy!”
What was the point of having TR Coates (William Christian) shoot Eli Grant (Lamon Archey) and then begin infiltrating Lani Price Grant (Sal Stowers) and Paulina Price’s (Jackée Harry) lives if that storyline is just going to be ignored and allowed to play out off-screen? I mean, have we even picked up that thread in the past two weeks?
What’s the point of the Jan Spears (Heather Lindell) is pregnant story other than to make Belle Brady (Martha Madison) look like a self-absorbed victim-blaming shrew? And the less said about Days of our Lives trying to equate Shawn Brady’s (Brandon Beemer) rape to John Black (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena Evans Black’s (Deidre Hall) affair the better.
What’s the deal with Anna Fredericks DiMera’s (Leann Hunley) predicament? Are they actually going to go the whole hog and actually do a rich lady in prison storyline? Or, as is more likely the outcome, will Anna soon be out of sight and out of mind?
And what is the point of Eric Brady’s (Greg Vaughan) return? DAYS has practically ruined his character what with having him walk out on his newly acquired wife for months on end and then not having to be forced to shoulder one iota of the blame for their subsequent split.
Eric did Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) all kinds of wrong – and vice versa – and I for one don’t want to see them reunite, and I also don’t have any interest in seeing him paired with anyone else that he may or may not run out on or expect to bend to his every whim.
Further DAYS Musings
* Did anyone else notice that the DAYS writing team didn’t even bother to come up with an excuse as to why Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) wasn’t at the gender reveal party?
* I wonder how much Wally Kurth was paid for those two scenes that Justin Kiriakis was in during which he had about as many lines?
* Missed Opportunities: Who else wanted to see that awkward car ride shared by Clyde Weston (James Read), Roman Brady (Josh Taylor), and Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans)?
* Ron Carlivati has never met a gimmick that he didn’t like, and Days of our Lives is a more gimmicky soap than most.
Yes, Maskgate has become a little unwieldy and I wholeheartedly agree that Devilgate MUST come to an end post-haste, but sometimes said gimmicks are cutesy and fun.
Take for instance Camila Banus’s Gabi Hernandez DiMera pretending to be an ADA named Lola Montez – Lola Montez being the character that Banus played on One Life to Live – or the reunion between former Y&R co-stars Greg Rikaart and Emily O’Brien AKA Leo Stark and Gwen Rizczech.
* Why is Xander Cook (Paul Telfer) fretting about buying a tux? Didn’t he have a special wedding day outfit replete with a kilt made for his wedding to Sarah (Linsey Godfrey)?
