A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Peacock & Other Couplings

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: A Critic’s Week In Review

I know many of you are probably anxious to read my response to the elephant in the room that is Days of our Lives relocation to the Peacock, so I’m going to begin this column by sharing my previously published opinion:

“If there’s one constant of this genre, it’s change. Just as novels by installment presaged the radio serials — aurally pleasing and a stimulant for the imagination — which in turn gave way to the televisual masterpieces known as daytime drama, a move to an online streamer is but the next evolution for an ever-evolving narrative. The soap opera is not dead. Long live the soap opera.”

With that restated, here follow a few paragraphs from industry insider and daytime drama director Scott McKinsey’s (DAYS; General Hospital; The Young and the Restless) open letter to Days of our Lives fans:

“The prospect of Days remaining in production for the long term just increased as a result of this move. Without Peacock Days days might have been numbered on the network.

“I understand peoples’ sour reaction to being asked for money to remain a viewer…[but] I’m going to ask you for one favor. Please consider signing on to Peacock for at least one month, near the date of September 12…This will help to solidify DOOL’s chances of remaining viable…please send us over…with as much support as you and your friends can muster.”

As a staunch Days of our Lives fan, I don’t think that is too much to ask. Even if you find yourself unable to continue supporting the soap monetarily after that first month, at least you’ll be able to say that you contributed to the continued success of a product that you love.

Also, rejoice Xfinity X1 and Flex customers. YOU already have the privilege of getting Peacock Premium (where DAYS will be heading) for FREE as part of your package! As for our Canada-based fans, fret not. DAYS isn’t being removed from the Global TV lineup.

Further DAYS Musings

* Could Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) and EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) be Days of our Lives next big couple? I hope not. It smacks of Gabi Hernandez DiMera (Camila Banus) and Stefan O. DiMera’s (Brandon Barash) hate to lust to love storyline.

* Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu) just isn’t doing it for me. Maybe it’s because she was so mean to my Xandy (Paul Telfer), or maybe it’s just because I know that she was created to act as another spoiler for the inevitable Eric/Nicole reunion and I just don’t want to get attached.

* Kudos to actor Richard Wharton for so seamlessly stepping into William Utay’s mad scientist lab coat.

* Like Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer), I felt that Belle Black Brady (Martha Madison) was insincere over his losing Shawn Christian. Unlike Shawn, I won’t be immediately walking the accusation back.

* Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) and Xander exemplify for me what makes DAYS great – young (or youngish) lovers on the case, in the thick of the action. I think their 80s’ betters would be proud.

Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Salem, check out all the latest that’s been posted on DAYS spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
