When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.
As expected, the big Days of our Lives wedding didn’t conclude with Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) and Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) being declared man and wife – though they did get further along in the ceremony than I betted – and the fallout from Chad DiMera’s (Billy Flynn) interruption was indeed suitably dramatic, but I couldn’t help but blanch at the whole endeavor.
Seeing and hearing Sami claim that Lucas was her perpetual knight in shining armor especially aggrieved me considering I remember when he went along with Kate Roberts’s (Lauren Koslow) suggestion that they frame her for a murder that he committed – which ended with Sami strapped to a table in a lethal injection chamber awaiting inevitable death – and later gaslit her over a cliff.
Come to think of it, having Sami snatched and confined to a room against her will is the least traumatizing thing that he’s ever subjected her to.
If I’m being honest, I’ve never appreciated ‘Lumi’ in the way that many Days of our Lives fans have. It’s not that I was blind to the chemistry between Dattilo or Sweeney [though personally I think they work best as playful buddies, schemers-in-arms, and co-parents rather than out and out lovers] and I’ll readily admit here and now that if forced to make a choice, I’d choose to see Sami paired opposite Lucas over EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel). My feelings on that particular couple are well documented.
But the problem that I have with ‘EJami‘ – i.e., the rootability factor – is the same problem that I have with ‘Lumi.’ Why would a woman – especially a woman who was victimized by a sadistic rapist in her youth – want anything to do with men who use and abuse her?
Here’s an idea, how about getting Sami into therapy – ideally with a therapist who is not her mother – and seeing if she can get to the bottom of her feller trouble. Maybe she’ll be able to find some self-respect, gain some self-awareness, and actually mature as a person. Stranger things have happened on Days of our Lives.
* Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) is truly EJ and Sami’s son. Who else but their spawn would think nothing of strutting into a church dressed in scarlet in spite of his dance with the Devil only a month or two previous?
* To be fair, Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) had a point when he wondered aloud to Kate, “Did you ever start to notice that people get hurt when your boys start to like women?” That being said, none of his kids are actually paragons of virtue – not even Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) the former priest or the seemingly perfect Carrie Reed (Christie Clark). If Kate had been in a better state of mind, she’d have probably noted that herself.
* You Know You’re Life Is A Soap Opera When…Like Sami you have to use all your fingers – and possible a toe or two – to count the number of times you’ve been wed or attempted to take the plunge.
