A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: An Inauspicious Debut

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: A Critic’s Week In Review

Days of our Lives made its debut on Peacock, NBC’s streaming platform, and I, for one, was severely underwhelmed.

The one bonus? I thought the soap actually looked miles and away better than it ever did on its home network — but good visuals are only going to get you so far.

As for the storylines themselves, they ran the gamut from mildly amusing — who doesn’t have an opinion about Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) and Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman)? — to eyebrow-raising — are we really going to just let the ‘Orpheus (George DelHoyo) Poisoning His Foe’s Femmes” storyline simmer on the back burner — to outright groan inducing — has there ever been more absurdly staged courtroom farce on the whole of soaps than that hearing to determine who’ll retain custody of Rachel Black (Finley Rose Slater)?

If this — not to mention Gabi Hernandez DiMera (Camila Banus) standing around complaining loudly to her fiancée that her back from the dead husband no longer finds her appealing and the laying of the seeds for yet another battle for control of DiMera Enterprises — was supposed to incentivize fans of old to stick around for the long haul, to entice skeptics to bite the bullet (read: pony up the dough for Peacock Premium), and to enrapture querying neophytes in the hopes that they would, in turn, involve into a whole new generation of Days of our Lives fans, then a grave mistake was made.

Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on Peacock+ in the U.S. and The W Network or Global TV App in Canada. For more about what’s coming up in Salem, check out all the latest that’s been posted on DAYS spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
