Abe has been in mourning on Days of Our Lives (DOOL), but his portrayer, James Reynolds, has plenty to celebrate!
Reynolds was born on August 10, 1946, in Oskaloosa, Kansas, and that means that he is turning 72 today! Before becoming an actor, he was a Marine and a Vietnam veteran.
After he studied journalism in college, Reynolds worked as a film reviewer for the Topeka Daily Capitol. As a part of his duties, he interviewed stars like Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas, and Peter Fonda.
This surely came in handy when he decided to give acting a try himself. He started off doing guest appearances on some of the biggest shows at the time, like The Magic of Lassie, Time Express, and The Incredible Hulk.
Later, he also landed roles on Diff’rent Strokes, The Dukes of Hazzard, Hart to Hart, Magnum, P.I., and Highway to Heaven. He also appeared on Seinfeld as well as 227.
But it was when he got the job on DAYS as Abe back in 1981 that soap fans fell head over heels in love with his portrayal of Roman Brady’s (then played by Wayne Northrop) steadfast partner.
He’s come and gone a couple of times, including to play Henry Marshall on Generations, but Salem is his home.
Reynolds has been married to Lissa Layng since December 21, 1986. They have one son together. He also has a child from his first marriage to Laura Toffenetti.
The handsome actor and wife Layng sit on the executive board of the Fremont Centre Theatre in Pasadena, California, where he also is artistic director.
