Soap fans know that there’s tons of backstage drama at their favorite daytime dramas, but it doesn’t always make headlines. Now, a show business website is reporting that there’s strife going on behind the scenes at Days of our Lives with co-executive producer/director Albert Alarr at the center.

Co-Executive Producer Albert Alarr Investigated

Deadline has done an extensive report that reads, “According to multiple sources, there has been shock, disbelief, disappointment and anger among cast and crew following the outcome of an internal investigation into misconduct allegations against longtime DAYS director/co-executive producer Albert Alarr.”

The report says a nine-week investigation was launched in March following a recent round of layoffs. A female employee got the ball in motion, noting that women had been “disproportionally impacted by the cuts and were not receiving equal pay on the show….”

Days of our Lives: Seven Ladies Leaving

The article pointed out that seven women were taken off contract around the time of the layoffs. Five were let go or demoted to recurring. Two exited on their own. (Camila Banus, who plays Gabi, announced in April that she had shot her last episode.) Deadline reports that DAYS has one full-time female director. Another female director directs in a slot that rotates.

Sony Pictures Television, which distributes DAYS, conducted the investigation into alleged misconduct by Alarr. Approximately 30-40 people (primarily women) were interviewed. Deadline reached out to Alarr for comment but he has yet to respond. A Sony rep also declined comment but confirmed that the investigation took place.

Report Findings: Days of our Lives Albert Alarr

Sony did release a statement to Deadline regarding the investigation’s findings. “Corday Productions engaged Sony Pictures Television…to conduct an impartial investigation into this matter. After a two-month investigation, the independent investigator produced a report with its findings. Based on those findings, Corday Productions has taken a series of actions designed to ensure a safe and respectful work environment.”

One source quoted in Deadline’s report said: “Nobody should treat people like this. In this day and age for men to be treating women like this, to take away their voices and treat them like they don’t matter and they’re second class citizens is just appalling.”
