All My Children, Days of our Lives Star John Callahan Dead At 66

John Callahan, best known for his longtime role as Edmund Grey on All My Children, died today. The actor suffered a massive stroke at his Palm Desert, CA home. He was 66 years old.

John Callahan Passes Away

A spokesperson for the actor shared that on Friday, March 27, paramedics responded to a call and rushed the actor to Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California where he was put on life support.

Callahan’s daughter, Kaya, and his ex-wife, Eva LaRue (ex-Maria, AMC: CSI: Miami), were notified immediately and drove from Los Angeles to Rancho Mirage.

The actor’s passing is not related to COVID-19. However, due to current hospital safety regulations, LaRue and the couple’s daughter were able to see Callahan for a limited time before having to leave the hospital. They were later notified of Callahan’s passing shortly after midnight by phone.

“We are extremely saddened and distraught over the loss of John,” LaRue said in a statement. “He was my great friend, co-parent and amazing father to Kaya. The absence of his bigger than life, gregarious personality will leave a hole in our hearts forever. Words cannot express the shock and devastation we are feeling at this time. The Yankees just lost one of their greatest fans.”

Callahan appeared on AMC from 1992-2005. He and LaRue met on the show and their on-screen romance turned into an off-screen marriage. His other credits include the roles of Leo Russell on General Hospital, Eric Stavros on Falcon Crest, and Craig Hunt on Santa Barbara.

He had a part on DAYS in 1989 and returned to Salem years later, in 2008, as another character, Dr. Baker. More recently, Callahan appeared in the web series Ladies of the Lake and The Bay.

Currently, there is no information available regarding a memorial service. According to John Callahan’s spokesperson, the family appreciates privacy, positive thoughts, and prayers. Soap Hub sends deep condolences to LaRue, Kaya, and the rest of Callahan’s family, friends, and loved ones.
