The Abigail viewers have long known and loved has gone haywire since alternate personalities Gabby and Dr. Laura emerged on Days of Our Lives.
The once sweet and hopelessly devoted wife to Chad (Billy Flynn) is suddenly wreaking havoc and shamelessly flirting with his brother, Stefan (Tyler Christopher). It’s all made for some intriguing storytelling twists and surprises.
But what is the show’s endgame in Abigail’s (Marci Miller) multiple personality mayhem? Rest assured there’s a purpose. In fact, there are likely three of them.
Commanding Her Role
This plot has solidified Marci Miller in the role of Abigail, finally putting comparisons to her predecessor, Kate Mansi, behind her. Not only is she in full charge of good girl Abigail, but she has also meticulously crafted her alternates.
Her Gabby is bold, unabashed and oozing with sex appeal, while Dr. Laura is bookish and cool.
Miller delineates between the trio seamlessly, a testament to her range and ability. Come Daytime Emmy time, next year, she’s destined for a nomination.
Three’s Company
Purpose #2 has been clear from the get go: creating an Abigail/Stefan relationship and, in turn, a Chad/Abigail/Stefan triangle. Luckily, there was an instant connection between Miller and Tyler Christopher.
They were totally in tune from their first scenes together–Christopher playing Stefan’s instant attraction to Miller’s uncomfortable Abigail. Then, things intensified and abruptly switched gears when Stefan met Gabby and Miller suddenly becoming the aggressive pursuer. In the process, a smoldering chemistry and coupling were ignited.
Bye-Bye Billy?
As for purpose #3, the powers-that-be at Days know that actor Billy Flynn’s four-year contract with the soap is expiring in September 2018. Should he decide to up and leave his popular role as Chad to pursue other opportunities, “Chabby’s” supercouple reign would come to an end.
But, there’s already a fallback plan in place. The show has wisely established Stefan, another powerful DiMera, as Abigail’s next leading man. So things could easily shift in a new direction.
