No one has been feeling the heat from Salem newcomer Stefan DiMera more than Abigail on Days of Our Lives, and actress Marci Miller is downright feverish about the story turn.
“He made such a grand entrance,” says Miller, referring to Tyler Christopher’s opening scenes as Stefan. “As a relatively new person to soaps, working with Tyler, I can tell that he been doing this for years. He’s amazing; such a total pro.”
Messing with Chabby
While Miller soaks up the experience of sharing scenes with the talented Christopher, the happily married Abigail is trying to contend with the uncomfortable attention Stefan’s been paying her. And so are DAYS’ viewers.
“I know people can get a little ruffled sometimes when somebody is interfering with ‘Chabby,’ especially Chad [Billy Flynn] and Abby fans,” notes Miller.
“But Tyler is so amazing and does things with such good quality, that even people who are rooting for Chabby, I feel, are excited about it. They’re excited to see what kind of scenes this is going to give all of us the opportunity to play.”
Miller is clearly among that “excited” lot. Plus, there’s that ‘turnabout is fair play’ thing.
Abigail in the Middle
“When I first came [on the show], Chad was in the middle between the Abigail and Gabi characters. It’s kind of nice for me get to play that dynamic, now,” explains Miller. “Abigail has such strong opposing feelings for both men. She really kind of can’t stand Stefan, but she’s crazy about Chad. It’s really cool stuff.”
And the best is yet to come. In the week ahead, Stefan steps up his game and Abigail accuses him of trying to stir up trouble between her and Chad.
“Stefan doesn’t give up,” says Miller. “It’s apparent from the very moment that he walked in that he has a thing for Abigail and is intrigued by her. And he’s not shy about communicating that. Stefan’s not as forward about it when Chad’s around, but a man can sense when someone is looking at his girl. Chad can tell that that energy is there.”
Testing Her Faith
Aside from making Abigail self-conscious, Stefan also starts testing her faith in Chad. “He tries to make Abigail feel like maybe Chad still has a thing for Gabi [Camila Banus],” explains Miller.
“He throws things in her face, like saying he ran into them together or saw them talking. Stefan is trying to get under Abigail’s skin and inside her mind to get her to question things.”
What lies ahead for the trio remains to be seen. For now, it’s a cat-and-mouse game with Stefan orchestrating play. Miller believes Christopher is doing a fabulous job as the newest devious DiMera.
“Stefan is charming, but sleazy in the way he plays everything,” says the actress. “Tyler does a great job of playing someone you kind of love to hate, but hate to love at the same time.”
Drawn to the Dark Side
As for Abigail being drawn to Stefan, Miller can see the attraction. “In Abigail’s head, I think she will always choose Chad,” contends Miller. “At the same time, she has always been drawn to DiMera men, who traditionally have a darker side. It’s not unusual for a good girl to be drawn to something a little dangerous, exciting, and fun.
“Sometimes I wonder if Abigail has a bit of an addiction to stress and rough times,” adds Miller. “But there are people who just can’t let things be good all the time. For whatever reason, they’re drawn to messing things up and sabotaging things.”
