Veteran soap actor A Martinez, who shot to daytime fame in the 1980s as Cruz Castillo on the Daytime Emmy-winning NBC show, Santa Barbara, has some great news for fans of the classic soap. Martinez and a host of favorites will be getting together again for a very special event.
A Martinez And Old Santa Barbara Pals
Old fans of SB will remember that Lane Davies, the original Mason Capwell, used to take summers off to perform Shakespeare on stage, and now he is ready to do it again with other co-stars from the long-missed soap — but with a twist. The event will be virtual, but you will see familiar faces and hear familiar voices. Martinez, who last appeared on soaps as Eduardo Hernandez on Days of our Lives, announced the event, called “Santa Barbara Shakes” on Instagram.
“Several members of the cast of the beloved series Santa Barbara will be gathering this Sunday on ZOOM to perform their favorite passages from the works of William Shakespeare,” Martinez wrote. “The event is a fundraiser for the Conasauga Shakespeare Coalition, a Dalton, Georgia–based outfit associated with Santa Barbara’s legendary Lane Davies. We will gather on Sunday, May 22nd, at 3:00pm PT/6:00pm ET to hang out with fans, tell stories –– and act –– and limited space is still available for those who wish to attend.”
Along with Martinez, you will see Davies, Harley Jane Kozak (Mary Duvall), Louise Sorel (Augusta Lockridge), Nicolas Coster (Lionel Lockridge), and Judith McConnell (Sophia Capwell). The actor also promises at least two surprise guests.
“Tickets are $100 for the two–hour event. Conasauga Shakespeare Coalition is a 501(c3), non–profit corporation, and funds raised will go toward mounting the works of the Great Wil in the wilds of North Georgia. Please email info.conasauga.shakes@gmail.com to request and reserve your place, and we will reply with information for sending payment via PayPal,” the actor added on Instagram. “You may join with a friend/family member/significant other. Space is limited.”
If you loved SB and these legendary performers, then you will love this Zoom event with some of your old favorites in 2022.
