While the casting news has been known for months, this is the week that Days of our Lives fans will finally get to see Rafe and Gabi’s father, Eduardo, in Salem once again. Both characters have had issues with their father in the past, and now actor A Martinez previews what viewers can expect from the Hernandez patriarch this time around.

A Martinez Previews Salem Return

The beloved Daytime-Emmy-winner (for his role as Cruz Castillo on Santa Barbara in 1990) took to social media, sharing his thoughts about returning to a character who wasn’t nearly as heroic as Cruz was on the other NBC soap opera that he was on for years.

“I’ve played more problematic fathers than Eddie Hernandez — but not by much,” recalls Martinez. “[This week] he returns to Salem to blow up the lives of two of his children, harder and colder about it than when last we saw him, on his way to prison.” Fans may recall how hard that was for his son, Rafe (Galen Gering), who was the one to arrest him.

“A couple of years ago, when we learned about his horrific, emotionally disfiguring childhood, we understood the way he got be the way he is, and for me, in the playing, it anchored my affection for him. But to witness him now, forever on the run from his demons and still endangering everyone he claims to care about, it’s hard to muster a lot of sympathy for the dude.

“And yet, I do… maybe because it’s my job. And I always savor the chance to hit the stage with these fearless, steadfast actors. #GalenGering #CamilaBanus @ggering @camila #DOOL @nbcdays”

According to spoilers, it looks like Martinez will be airing on Tuesday, but perhaps it is today! Stay tuned to find out! Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
