A Critic’s Review of Days of our Lives: Serious Omissions And A Kudos

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: A Critic’s Week In Review

Please allow me to preface this piece by saying that a critic’s got to critique – even when said critique is aimed at a show where logic is frequently thrown out of the same European castle window that Kristen DiMera (then Eileen Davidson, now Stacy Haiduk) and Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) have crashed through in the past.

That being said…I have serious problems with Ciara’s (Victoria Konefal) reaction to Marlena Evans Black’s (Deidre Hall) claim that she’s being abused. Sure, we the audience know that it’s a ploy by the Devil to get the spouses Weston on its side, but as a victim of abuse herself (as is so many a Days of our Lives heroine), Ciara should have been far more willing to give Marlena the benefit of the doubt – especially in light of Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) confirming that a brain aneurism had turned the normally docile John Black (Drake Hogestyn) into a mean, strangling machine.

Instead, Ciara all but told Marlena – to her face – that she didn’t believe she was a victim of anything, and in a world where so many real-life victims are ignored and/or dismissed, that was particularly troubling.

Further DAYS Musings

* Boy, Days of our Lives is sure doing Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson) dirty, aren’t they? Still, people on this show have done worse things than frame someone for their death. Heck, just the people in Philip’s family have done worse things.

Still, though, it was a little disheartening to hear him refer to Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) as a “son of a bitch” given that Brady’s late mother was Philip’s saintly sister Isabella.

* Despite the above knocking of the Days of our Lives writers, they are still owed kudos for finally referencing John’s aneurism caused mood swings, and violent rages; however, bonus kudos could have been had if they finally addressed whether or not he’s still on the hook for attempting to murder Jan Spears.

* Given that she just tangled with zombie Deimos Kiriakis (Vincent Irizarry), why was Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) so quick to poo-poo Susan Banks’s (Stacy Haiduk) claim that Marlena was possessed by the Devil. In fact, how is it that neither Nicole nor EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) ever heard of Doc’s plight?

* No Truer Words…

John: Leave it to Julie Williams to scare Satan away.
