When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the DAYS week that was.
Days of our Lives seems to be of the opinion that, when you find a storyline that succeeds in entertaining the audience, rinse and repeat ad nauseum until they tire of it.
Example number one: Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) may fancy herself The Woman of a 1,000 Facts, but she hasn’t gotten anything on Sami (Alison Sweeney). Not only can Sami wear a mask with the best of them, but she’s prepared to go the extra mile and assume the identity of a man!
And just like the original Stan ruse, the Stan 2.0 scam failed spectacularly…but at least this time Sami’s downfall took place in the halls of University Hospital rather than inside a church and in the midst of one of her many interrupted marriage ceremonies. And the added bonus of the sixteen-year-old flashbacks was a welcome treat.
Example number two: Female rivals argue at the top of a staircase; one of them loses her footing, takes a hard fall, and in the aftermath, she claims that not only was she pushed, but that the tumble robbed her of a baby.
That lie served Nicole (Arianne Zucker) well back in 2012, and it seems to be doing the trick for Gwen (Emily O’Brien) in 2021. Sidenote: Why are those DiMera stairs so dang dangerous? They’ve claimed Marlo Ungerschterner, severely injured Faye Walker, and now Gwen.
Example Three: When more than two people are seen driving down the same stretch of highway it is inevitable that must crash into one another.
In 2016, there was a pile-up involving Jennifer, Eric (Greg Vaughan), Brady (Eric Martsolf), and Daniel (Shawn Christian). A few years later Orpheus (George DelHoyo) and Evan (Brock Kelly) ran Bonnie (Judi Evans) and Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) off the road. And now you have Brady running smack dab into Kristen…the very woman that he looking for!
And what is with this show and islands? Stefano had a super-secret bad guy island. Ditto Ernesto Toscano. Then there was the island that Tony (Thaao Penghlis) was imprisoned on for two decades. And who could forget Melaswen?
* For long time fans of the soap, the Allie (Lindsay Arnold) and Chanel (Precious Way) smooch no doubt conjured up memories of the much-maligned Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes)/Sharon Duval (Sally Stark) lesbian storyline; and much like that quickly aborted plot, we’re pretty sure nothing more will come of the incident. That kiss was nothing more than a stunt meant to prolong the “Will Allie and Tripp get together or won’t they” angst.
* What exactly is Dr. Snyder’s (Michael Lowry) deal? Be the hero or villain? Should Ava (Tamara Braun) be sicced on him now or later? Will he, or won’t he, like many a SUH employee before him – we’re looking at you Liam Frasier and Dr. Henry Shah – become obsessed with Jennifer Rose?
* Will admit it, we’re not that opposed to a possible Rafe (Galen Gering) and Ava coupling.
* Those Brady Bunch-themed jokes flew fast and furious this week huh? Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
