She’s On Her Way To Salem: 7 Things to Know About Anjelica Deveraux

Anjelica Deveraux heads back to Salem this summer, and if her past is any indication that means trouble with a capital T.

The character, originated by Jane Elliot (ex-Tracy, GH) and later portrayed by Shelley Taylor Morgan (ex-Lorena, GH) and Judith Chapman (Gloria, Y&R; ex-Ginny), will be played by primetime and daytime vet Morgan Fairchild, this time around.

Want a crash course on the headstrong unruly aristocrat? Here are seven things to know about her.

1. Man Oh Men
Anjelica was wed to Senator Harper Deveraux, who turned out to be the crazed Riverfront Knifer, and Dr. Neil Curtis.

In between she had an affair with Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth). She came within seconds of marrying Victor (John Aniston), too, until Justin burst in and stopped the ceremony.

2. Step-Mommy Dearest
Harper’s second wife helped raise his adopted son, Jack Deveraux. The pair were close and she was always in Jack’s corner, oft times encouraging him to embrace his bad side in the interest of getting ahead.

Anjelica’s the one who prodded Jack to use Melissa’s feelings for him to gain her support, when he was campaigning for Harper’s senate seat.

3. Baby Bombshell
Her older woman/younger man affair with Justin, during one of his breakups from Adrienne (Judi Evans), wreaked havoc on the supercouple and produced a son, Alexander.

Hoping the baby would put the permanent kibosh on Justin and Adrienne’s relationship, Anjelica told Adrienne that Justin was her baby daddy. To her chagrin, the pair stayed together.

4. A Line to Remember
Harper was furious when Anjelica announced she was pregnant. When she found out why – that he knew from the get go he couldn’t possibly be the father because he was impotent – she confronted him in an explosive scene.

And she delivered one of the DAYS’ funniest lines ever. “There is a sterile cuckoo in your clock, sir,” spat Anjelica.

Wanting Adrienne out of the picture permanently, Anjelica devised a deadly plot to eliminate her.

She had a bomb planted at Adrienne’s construction company and had it detonate when she was on site. Justin ended up saving Adrienne, who was trapped in a pit, foiling Anjelica’s plans.

6. Bye-Bye Baby
Petrified that the cops would uncover she orchestrated the aforementioned bombing, Anjelica split town with Alexander.

When the plane they boarded ended up crashing, everyone mourned their deaths. But, in reality, mother and child had taken another flight and were actually alive and well.

7. The Right Thing
Anjelica ultimately did the right thing when Johnny Corelli tracked her down and convinced her that Alexander would be better off raised by Justin and Adrienne.

She relinquished the child to him, and Johnny returned the tot to an overjoyed Justin.
