Abigail Deveraux DiMera exited Salem to contemplate her future and the fallout of her half-sister Gwen’s Rizczech plots against her and her family on Days of our Lives. The storyline move was made to accommodate actress Marci Miller’s maternity leave, but the actress has been back on set filming for months and will soon be resurfacing on air. When Abigail finally reappears, there are four questions that need to be answered.
First and foremost, what’s the status of her marriage to Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn)? Is Abigail ready to forgive the husband who was foolishly duped into sleeping with Gwen (Emily O’Brien) and got her devious sis pregnant? Since Gwen miscarried, the baby’s a nonissue.
However, Abigail can’t ever erase Chad’s betrayal or the fact that he was so easily conned into believing she was sleeping with his brother Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash). It might be time for Abigail to move on or put in some serious work – perhaps counseling sessions with Dr. Marlena Evans Black (Deidre Hall) – to repair things with Chad.
Can Abigail and Gwen make amends and actually bond as sisters? It seems like a stretch, especially since Abigail is bound to find out that Gwen lost her baby before their altercation on the DiMera staircase; the altercation that Gwen lied about and said caused her miscarriage.
That could be the final straw for Abigail; the thing that makes her put Gwen on notice and let her know she’ll never consider her family. That is unless Gwen can do something major to change her mind. Here’s an idea: How about putting Thomas or Charlotte in some sort of peril and having Gwen come to their rescue?
Where will Abigail actually live? She can’t move into the Horton house with Jack (Matthew Ashford), because Gwen’s been residing there. And if she moves back into the DiMera mansion, she’ll be under the same roof as her wayward husband and her ex-lover, EJ (Dan Feuerrigel), which would make things super awkward. It’s likely she’ll choose the latter, considering the spaciousness of the mansion. Plus, it opens up all kinds of dramatic possibilities.
Are Abigail’s mental problems behind her? Have her personalities, Gabby and Dr. Laura, fully integrated, and has she transformed into a stronger woman with a higher level of understanding and peace? Hopefully, the answer is yes and she can move forward as the Salem heroine she was born to be. After all, Tom and Alice’s great-granddaughter represents the future of the Horton family, and she was destined to be a strong female leader.
