We realize many people believe we live in a more dangerous time now than ever before (completely not true, BTW, people have never been safer), but does that mean our soaps have to be interrupted every single time something newsworthy happens? Or every time the president meets another Head of State and they both chit-chat about what a pleasant meeting its been? Almost 3,000 viewers sounded off on how they feel about this situation.
Reality TV
The last time soaps were preempted for any length of time for ongoing news coverage was during the OJ Simpson murder trial in 1995.
Soap ratings plummeted and never fully recovered. As a result, viewers lost long-running Loving/The City, Another World, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, All My Children, and One Life to Live.
If soap ratings dip again due to the latest round of bulletins, 84% of you fear it could cost you the last four shows still on the air, which is why you are stridently against them.
Real News v. Fake News
Oh, come on, comes push-back from 10% of voters. Are you seriously telling me that you think your soaps are more important than what’s going on in the White House?
Will Quinn (Rena Sofer) sleep with Ridge (Thorsten Kaye), will Nicole (Arianne Zucker) get her baby back, who will own Brash & Sassy, and will Sonny (Maurice Benard) hurl some more innocent barware is more important that the state of the nation?
This group is perfectly happy to skip the answers to those questions if it means remaining informed about real daytime drama.

And, as always, the tiniest group, 6%, don’t know what to think. Breaking news is critical… but so is the latest news from Salem, Genoa City, Port Charles and Los Angeles (as it pertains to the fashion industry). Maybe they could split the difference and just run a crawl at the bottom of the screen?
