[dropcap]S[/dropcap]weet Caroline has never been sweet, but has always kept life in Port Charles interesting. When the girl calling herself Carly Roberts first came to town, she took a job at General Hospital and befriended nurse Bobbie Jones, who she used as a mentor to get her into the nursing program at the hospital. Luke soon learned this young lady had an agenda and he was determined to find out why. His snooping led to the discovery that Carly was the baby Bobbie gave birth to in her teens during he prostitute years and gave up for adoption. Her legal name was Caroline Benson and she was determined to ruin Bobbie’s life. She accomplished this by seducing Bobbie’s husband, Tony.

[ads2b]Tony left Bobbie when he discovered Carly was pregnant, but later learned the baby was the result of a one-night stand with A.J. Quartermaine. Carly did not want her baby raised as a Quartermaine, so she claimed he was Jason Morgan’s son instead. She gave birth and then left town, leaving her son with Jason, who named him Michael after mobster Michael “Sonny” Corinthos. Since Jason and A.J. were brothers, she had little problem with blood paternity tests.

When Carly returned to town, she and Jason tried raising Michael together, but eventually Carly entered into a romance with Sonny and several marriages ensued over the years, with Sonny adopting Michael and Carly giving birth to another son, Morgan, named for Jason.

Carly and Sonny always had a fiery romance, but their crazy passions led to many breakups. Carly, who by now was close to her mother, Bobbie, seemed to finally find love with Jasper Jacks and the pair were married for nearly 7 years, producing a daughter named Josslyn. When the pair finally divorced, Jax nearly married Brenda again, but Carly made it clear Brenda was still in love with Sonny and set out to prove it.

Meanwhile, she eventually developed feelings for Franco, a man who had caused her much heartache in the past. She finally understood his dastardly ways when he had surgery to remove a brain tumor that caused his crimes. Carly and Franco fell in love, but the pull of Sonny and their connection through their children remained strong.
