Sally Ann Matthews is a British actress who is best known for appearing as Jenny Bradley on Coronation Street on-and-off for over 30 years. She has also appeared on Emmerdale.
Along with her work on the British soaps, Matthews has also appeared in shows such as Heartbeat, 4 O’Clock Club, and Stay Lucky. From where she was born and raised to being related to her co-star, here are five fast facts about the actress.
She was born on September 19 in Oldham, Lancashire, where she was also raised. She started acting as a teenager and even landed a role on a soap when she was just 16.
Soap Career
Matthews was cast as Jenny Bradley on Coronation Street in 1986 and has been on-and-off the show ever since. She initially departed in 1991 and then returned in 1993, but ended up leaving that same year. She was then cast as Sandra Briggs on Emmerdale and stayed on that show for a year. Matthews returned to Coronation Street in 2015 and has been back ever since.
We Are Family
While many actors follow in the footsteps of relatives who are also in the entertainment business, it took Matthews until 2018 to figure out she’s actually cousins with fellow Coronation Street actress Amanda Barrie. Barrie, who plays Alma Sedgewick, is also from Lancashire.
Along with her career in television, Matthews has also appeared in a number of theater productions. She has in productions of Romeo and Juliet, The Business of Murder, Don’t Dress for Dinner, and Turn of the Screw.

The actress is married to Nicholas Rhodes, and they have two children together — sons Louis and James. The family lives together in London.
