Perry Fenwick is a British actor who is best known for playing Billy Mitchell on EastEnders for over 20 years.
Along with his work on the British soap, Fenwick has also appeared in shows such as Watching, The Bill, and The Thin Blue Line. From where he was born and raised to marrying another soap star, here are five fast facts about the talented actor.
Fenwick was born on May 29 in Canning Town, East London, England. He grew up with his sister, Tracey, and two brothers, Faron and Lee. Once Fenwick became interested in acting, he attended The Sylvia Young Theatre School.
Paying His Dues
Prior to pursuing acting full-time, Fenwick worked as a catalog model in the early ‘80s. He was also appearing on television shows as a guest-star during this time, but he didn’t land his first regular role until he got the part of Terry Milton on the sitcom Watching in the late ’80s.
Soap Career
Fenwick was cast as Billy Mitchell in EastEnders in 1998, but he almost turned down the role. The actor initially thought it was only for three episodes and that it would prevent him from landing other roles in the future, but the casting director convinced him to take the part and he’s been on the show ever since.
It’s no surprise Fenwick is very close to a number of his co-stars, but he was friends with Cathy Murphy before she was cast on EastEnders. The pair began their long friendship when Fenwick was just 21 years old, but they didn’t get the chance to work together until 30 years later when Murphy was cast as Julie Perkins.
