Jamie Borthwick is a British actor who is best known for playing Jay Brown in EastEnders for close to 15 years.
Along with being on the very popular British soap, Borthwick has also appeared in Not Going Out and Gina’s Laughing Gear. From where he was born and raised to finding out he was actually related to one of his co-stars, here are five fast facts about the actor.
He was born on June 23 in Barking, London, England to parents Simon and Sharon. He grew up in the London area with his two siblings and he attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London.
Soap Career
Borthwick was cast as Jay Brown in EastEnders in 2006 and has been on the show ever since. He won a British Soap Award for Best Dramatic Performance from a Young Actor or Actress in 2008 and dedicated his award to his grandmother, who had passed away two years earlier.
It’s Like A Family Backstage…Really
Borthwick is a second cousin to former EastEnders star Charlie Winter (who played Hunter Owen), but he didn’t know they were related until after they had been cast on the show together. Borthwick did some investigating after noticing Winter had the same last name as his uncle and, as it turned out, it wasn’t just a coincidence.
Borthwick announced in January 2019 that he was going to run the London Marathon with some of his EastEnders co-stars in honor of former co-star Barbara Windsor, who suffers from dementia. Borthwick and his co-stars ran to raise money for Dementia Revolution.
Getting Personal
Borthwick is not married and he does not have children. When he’s not acting, he’s very interested in sports, specifically football (AKA soccer). He is a massive supporter of West Ham United and is also interested in boxing.
