James Bye is a British actor who is best known for playing Martin Fowler on EastEnders for the past five years.
Along with his work on the British soap, Bye has also appeared on shows such as The Bill and Cemetery Junction. From where he was born and raised to becoming a father, here are five fast facts about the actor.
He was born on February 23 in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England to parents Leonard and Pauline. He was raised with his younger sister, Amy Scarlett, and attended The Hurst Community College and Queen Mary’s College.
First Role
Prior to his work on EastEnders, Bye got his first acting role on an episode of The Bill, which is a British police procedural series. Bye got the part of Tom Burrows in 2006 and appeared in one episode. He then went on to appear in episodes of Cemetery Junction and Hummingbird.
Soap Career
Bye took over the role of Martin Fowler on EastEnders in October 2014. The role was originally played by Jon Peyton-Price, who had the part from 1985 to 1996, and then James Alexandrou took over from 1996 to 2007. The character remained off the canvas until Bye took on the character.
Since being on EastEnders, Bye has been nominated for two British Soap Awards, winning one. He won the award for Best Storyline in 2016 for Stacey’s postpartum psychosis storyline. He was nominated for Best On-Screen Partnership with Lacey Turner in 2017.
Getting Personal With James Bye
He began dating Victoria McCumisky in June 2006 and the couple got engaged in December of 2010. They married in April of 2012 and welcomed their first son, Edward Jude Bye, on October 21, 2013. Their second son, Louis George Bye, was born on March 9, 2016, and their third son, Hugo James Bye, was born on February 20, 2019.
