Adam Woodyatt is a British television and theater actor best known for playing Ian Beale on EastEnders for over 30 years. Along with his work on the soap, Woodyatt has appeared on shows such as The Baker Street Boys and The Bill.
The talented star as also been in theater productions of Aladdin and Cinderella. From where he was born and raised to the charities he works with, here are five fast facts about the actor.
Woodyatt was born on June 28 in Walthamstow, but he grew up in West London. He attended Forest School and the Sylvia Young Theater School. He also attended Llanidloes High School in Wales.
Acting Hiatus
After finishing school, Woodyatt was cast in the children’s drama The Baker Street Boys as Shiner. The show wrapped after a year, but Woodyatt decided to take a break from acting altogether. In fact, he started working as a butcher in Wales before eventually returning to acting.
Soap Career
Woodyatt was cast as Ian Beale on EastEnders in the ‘80s and is now officially the longest-serving cast member, as he’s the only character to appear in the first episode without ever leaving. He was even honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013 for his work on the show.
Following the death of his father from cancer at the age of 58, Woodyatt became involved in a number of charities. He was involved in a charity bicycle ride to raise money for cancer research, and he also helped launch an Aid for Haiti Event in 2010. He even ran the London Marathon in 2019 for a dementia cause in honor of his former EastEnders co-star, Barbara Windsor.
Getting Personal With Adam Woodyatt
The actor married his wife, dancer Beverly Sharp, on April 8, 1988, in a private ceremony at Disney World. The couple has two children, and live in Southam, Warwickshire.
