Liam’s confession to Deputy Chief Baker on The Bold and the Beautiful was compelling and dramatic. Viewers watched a man wanting to do the right thing while at the same time trying to fight for his freedom and also keep his father from being implicated in any wrongdoing.
The Bold and the Beautiful — A Tense Time For Liam
Dan Martin continues to be Daytime TV’s best recurring lawman by bringing a gruff persistence to his role as Deputy Chief Bradley Baker, a man who won’t rest until justice is served. He grilled Liam (Scott Clifton) as Vinny’s (Joe LoCicero) killer stumbled over his words, insisting that what happened was an accident.
Baker said he wasn’t expecting this after Liam showed up at the station, adding that his story had some holes in it. Baker’s instincts were correct, which leads us to our concern – why didn’t Liam go in to make his confession with a stronger game plan — like bringing a lawyer in with him? When Baker asked Liam if he was alone in the car, he stopped answering questions and said he wanted an attorney. But at this point, the police had enough to arrest him.
It was great that Hope (Annika Noelle) was by his side, supporting her husband. Her willingness to stand by Liam helps support the argument that what happened was one big accident. Soaps are often criticized for not having strong moral characters. Well, no one can accuse Liam of not being honorable as he stepped up and did the right thing.
It’s ironic, however — Liam went to the police to be truthful, but by not revealing Bill’s (Don Diamont) involvement he’s also lying. When Baker accused Liam of just driving off after hitting Vinny, Liam had a big opportunity to say that no, he didn’t do that. He’d fainted and his passenger pop picked up him and drove off. Sure, this would have resulted in Bill facing charges, but how severe would they have been? We can bet that Bill would have had a lawyer with him! As Liam didn’t want to implicate his father, he clammed up.
If Liam wants to be truthful, then he needs to tell the whole truth. He can’t expect the police to believe him that it was an accident when he’s not giving them the complete story. Liam and Hope are honest but that doesn’t mean they’re not smart. One or both of them should have thought to have had a lawyer go with them when they went to the police station.
Bill, likewise, could have called in an attorney to handle this. He confides in his colleague Justin Barber (Aaron D. Spears) all the time. Criminal law may not be Justin’s field of expertise but Bill could have picked Justin’s brain about the best way to approach the situation from a legal standpoint as Bill knew that Liam wanted to confess.
Kudos to BB for not only the tense back and forth between Liam and Hope and Baker during the interrogation, but also for showing a beautiful montage showing Hope and Liam’s romance at the end of the episode. The good news is that Hope forgives Liam for everything. The couple is together again, but they’re also separated by Liam’s confession.
BB has promised there’s a twist coming in this story and we can’t wait to see what it is! Just what was Vinny doing out on the road that night? Will Bill’s involvement in this tale come to light? Don’t miss an episode to find out what happens next! The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
