Over the years, viewers have seen photo features displaying the tastefully decorated dressing room of John McCook, who plays Eric on The Bold and the Beautiful. His room is close to the stage so the actor was happy to let visiting cast member Betty White temporarily use his BB digs when she appeared on the show as Ann.
John McCook Remembers Time With Betty White
On the occasion of White’s 99th birthday earlier this week, McCook shared an anecdote on social media from her time at the half-hour soap opera. “Happy Birthday to the wonderful Betty White!!” McCook posted. “We let her use my dressing room on ‘Bold and Beautiful’ and when I poked my head in her first morning to say hello she said, ‘Thanks for the room! You know, we COULD share..’ and gave me a big wink every day…God bless, Betty!!”
While many primetime and film stars have come to daytime for guest spots, White got to sink her teeth into some meaty storylines. The first delved into Stephanie’s (Susan Flannery) psyche, explaining why she had so many control issues. It turns out her late father physically abused Steph as a child and Ann, much to Steph’s horror, looked the other way and was cruising down the river known as denial.
The second story dealt with the issue of Ann’s passing and her dying with dignity after she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Steph, who made up with her mom, and her sister Pam (Alley Mills), comforted Ann as she passed away, on her own terms, in one of her favorite spots — Paradise Cove.
White appeared in over 20 episodes of BB. The character was first mentioned, briefly, in the show’s first year in a scene with Stephanie and Ridge (then-Ronn Moss), but White didn’t debut on the show until 2006. Her last appearance was in 2009.
Soap Hub joins McCook and White’s legion of fans in wishing the beloved star a happy birthday! The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
