Deacon Sharpe, played by Sean Kanan, doesn’t have a lot to chuckle about these days. Still, he’s known to add a quip or two in during the most dramatic moments on Bold and the Beautiful. Kanan’s set to flex his funny muscles even more this weekend in Atlantic City.

Sean Kanan Wants to Make You Laugh

“Calling all COBRAS!” Kanan posted on Instagram. “Join me in the Comedy Dojo Saturday, January 7 @accomedyclub Atlantic City Comedy Club. It’s going to be a fun night of standup, an audience Q&A, tons of merch, and probably [some] knuckle push-ups, so don’t let your karate be a joke. Order tickets NOW! #cobrakai #karatekid #boldandbeautiful.”

Write What You Know

Kanan, like most comics, draws from real-life experiences to use as material in his routines. So soap fans can count on the actor to relate his experiences from his time in daytime drama when he takes to the stage.

He jokes that one of the long-running “diseases” in Port Charles, the locale of General Hospital where he played A.J. Quartermaine, is SORAS — Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome. “A.J. first appeared…as an eight-year-old boy and was promptly shipped off to a Swiss boarding school and then returned two years later as a 27-year-old with a drinking problem…”

Family members aren’t off limits, either. The actor talks about how his wife, Michele Kanan, swapped out his nicotine patch with her estrogen patch! “I was in the sauna at the gym with a buddy, sweating like a real man, talking about UFC,” Kanan says. Then, another gym members asks him how it’s going with quitting smoking. Kanan quips: “It’s really, really hard. Why don’t you ever listen to me?”

Sean Kanan Draws on Cobra Kai

As he’s reprised his Karate Kid III role of Mike Barnes in the streaming series Cobra Kai, Kanan also uses his experiences from that role in his stand-up. “It’s going to be a fun night of standup, an audience Q&A, tons of merch, and probably [some] knuckle push-ups, so don’t let your karate be a joke,” Kanan says, referencing Mike Barnes’s famous line.
