Soaps adding weekly retro episodes, the daytime world mourns another loss, and a DAYS star’s wedding postponed due to COVID-19… Here’s everything you missed in the daytime world — with links — in the Soap Hub soap opera news wrap.
Soap Opera News: Going Retro
With production halted at all the daytime dramas due to the coronavirus, General Hospital has found a way to stretch out broadcasts of original episodes. The soap has begun airing retro shows on Fridays. The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful will be following suit and airing classic episodes, too.
Back on Top
After a week out of first place in the daytime rating race, YR is back at the top of the heap. The soap placed #1 in a few coveted categories.
Soap Vet Dies
John Callahan (ex-Edmund, All My Children; ex-Dr. Baker, Days) passed away after a massive stroke. He was 66.
The actor’s ex-wife Eva LaRue (ex-Maria, AMC; CSI: Miami) was able to visit Callahan with their daughter, Kaya, before he died. La Rue also posted some loving words about her former husband.
Callahan’s former AMC co-stars Susan Lucci (ex-Erica) and Julia Barr (ex-Brook) paid tribute to the actor, too.
Daytime vet Patrika Darbo (ex-Nancy, DAYS; ex-Shirley, B&B) checked in to a local hospital. She took to Instagram to fill fans in on her condition and diagnosis.
Soap vets Drake Hogestyn (John, DAYS) and Vincent Irizarry (ex-Deimos, Days) gave a well-deserved shout out to two of their kids. The actors both have children who are on the front line helping to fight the coronavirus.
Gilles Marini (ex-Ted, DAYS; ex-Dr. Ghode) is equally as proud of his mother, Franca. She’s a caregiver in a nursing home where, so far, 19 people have died.
Greg Rikaart (Kevin, YR) gave a positive update regarding his personal battle with COVID-19, while GH alumna Emma Samms (ex-Holly) shared her recent experience with the virus, too.
Kate Mansi (Abigail, Days) was slated to marry fiance Blake Levin on March 29, but then the pandemic hit. The actress had some advice for other couples whose weddings were affected by the virus.
Covid-19: What’s It All About?
Rena Sofer (Quinn, B&B) gave her take on why she thinks the coronavirus is happening. And she urged all of us to reclaim humanity and make Mother Earth proud.
GH’s Jophielle Love (Violet) has some ideas about how to have fun, while stuck at home due to the coronavirus. And a group of her young GH co-stars, led by Scarlett Fernandez (Charlotte), have started using Zoom to bond in the age of social distancing.
COVID-19 couldn’t stop Jen Lilley (ex-Theresa) and her clan from celebrating Baby J’s second birthday. Check out the pictures from their happy party here.
Keeping His Cool
A lot of people are stressed to the max over COVID-19. Kyle Lowder (ex-Rex, Days) has a calming technique that’s getting him through it.
With BB production halted, Heather Tom (Katie) has been tackling a new role. She’s playing teacher to her son, Zane, who’s being homeschooled.
Tom also addressed her thoughts on that Bill and Brooke kiss, and what it means for Katie and Bill moving forward. Meanwhile, Denise Richards (Shauna) spoke out on what it all means for her character and Ridge.
