Is Something Off About Bold and the Beautiful’s Sheila Carter Shooting?

The Bold and the Beautiful has become must-see viewing again, ever since the return of that naughty nurse Sheila Carter in the form of Kimberlin Brown. You never know what Sheila will do next and one thing she did we never saw coming. Was there a reason for that?

Bold and the Beautiful: No Redeeming Qualities

Villainy, certainly in the form of Sheila, is nothing new to daytime that has certainly spotlighted its share of mercurial, mustache-twirling villains. But the best villains — and yes, Sheila Carter can be counted among their lot — usually have at least one redeeming quality. Often it’s the same one — they love their family.

That is why it was so hard to fathom during her shooting of her son Finn (Tanner Novlan) that Sheila wouldn’t let his wife, Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) call for help. We’re supposed to believe it was more important to Sheila to kill her nemesis than to save her son?

That goes against the unwritten rule of daytime — managing to keep your dastardly character viable for the future. You need to take them up to the line — but not cross it — at least in a way that would be unforgivable to the audience. Wouldn’t Sheila grab the phone, call 911 for help, and then shoot Steffy, maybe?

Also, why wouldn’t the former nurse at least try to save her son herself rather than assume he was dead? There could have been a whole episode of Sheila crying, trying to bring her son back to the land of the living (after shooting Steffy perhaps), but having to run after she hears the sirens approach. Give us something to not believe Sheila is evil incarnate and shouldn’t be allowed to draw another breath. After all, she’s too delicious a villain to lose.
