How Far Is Too Far For The Bold and the Beautiful To Push Things?

It’s a fine tale The Bold and the Beautiful is weaving as they’ve managed to bring Sheila Carter back into the Los Angeles fold…albeit with a wig, a mask, and dark glasses — but she’s back causing trouble for Deacon Shape. It’s created a fun new spin on things, but does it feel like the CBS soap we’ve known and loved for years?

The Bold and the Beautiful: Ch-Ch-Changes

B&B was the last holdout, it seemed, of daytime soaps to employ the device of sticking a “mask” on someone that is able to fool everyone around them who knows them well. For that reason and the usual lack of bringing people back from the dead, the half-hour soap seemed like the one most based in the reality we all live in.

That changed recently with bringing the beloved villainess back from yet another “death” — even though it was a smokescreen orchestrated by the woman herself. Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) managed to seduce poor sap Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan), which wasn’t all that hard since the recently released felon hasn’t had female companionship for quite some time. Still, ya didn’t notice the mask, Deacon? Who are you — Brady Black on Days of our Lives?

We understand that Sheila has burned way too many bridges to be allowed to roam around as a viable character — using her own face. But if you know you have this incredible character who is fabulous at stirring everyone’s pot, maybe you don’t have her shoot your heroine, Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), in cold blood in the first place, making it so impossible.

There is a way to keep someone who does horrible things around without resorting to these fantastic tricks in order to do so. Maybe don’t have them do things that are so heinous, it can’t be walked back without the writers doing mental gymnastics to make it happen. At least if you want the villain to have long-term viability.
