The Bold and the Beautiful threw viewers a surprise when Steffy Forrester Finnegan’s inability to recall who her husband Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan was and that they share a child was short-lived. What’s not surprising is that Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy) turned in another series of powerful performances, earning her Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week for B&B once more.

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood – Performer of the Week

The week began with Steffy at home in the company of her loving parents Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) and Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen). In scenes set to a suspenseful score, Steffy came to the horrific conclusion that Finn (Tanner Novlan) was shot dead and she was shot by none other than Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown).

B&B’s director kept the camera tight on Steffy to emphasize the traumatic memories that began washing over her. After Taylor asked Steffy who she was seeing, Steffy replied “Sheila…Sheila!” At first, Steffy didn’t identify Sheila as the shooter — just that her mother-in-law was present in the alley around the time of the shooting. Then, Steffy recalled Sheila shooting Finn! Asked if she were sure, Steffy stuttered to get the words out — that yes, she was remembering accurately.

As if this wasn’t horrifying enough, Steffy recalled that Sheila then shot her after she’d pumped lead into Finn. “I’m not going to let her get away with this…I want her to suffer…she’s going to pay for what she’s done!” a tearful Steffy proclaimed.

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood didn’t lose sight of Steffy’s street smarts despite her character’s impassioned fury towards Sheila. Steffy convinced her parents to invite Sheila over to visit Finn. After Sheila arrived at Steffy’s home, Wood played Steffy cool and collected so that she could trap her husband’s killer. Sheila talked about wanting to honor Finn, which pushed Steffy to the edge.

It wasn’t long, however, before Steffy lost it — painfully lamenting the loss of her husband. “I remember now,” Steffy told a stone-faced Sheila. “I know what you did that night! How can you stand here and talk about loving and honoring him when it was you! You shot him!… You killed your own son and then you shot me and left me to die! That’s the truth, Sheila!… You’re a murderer!”

Of course, Sheila feigned innocence but Steffy didn’t back down. No matter how many times Sheila tried to confuse Steffy (and Ridge and Taylor), Finn’s widow didn’t back down. “This never would have happened if you’d shown me any kind of compassion, understanding, or kindness,” Sheila informed Steffy. “Finn would still be here if it weren’t for you…you had to come after me. You had to attack me…Finn’s blood is on you!”

That was the last straw as far as Steffy was concerned. Ridge had to physically restrain her daughter from getting into a physical altercation with Sheila. The naughty nurse kept on driving home the point that Steffy’s persecution of Sheila caused Finn’s death. Sheila said Steffy should have given her a chance. “I did in the alley,” Steffy coldly reminded Sheila. “You showed me exactly who you are. You’re a psycho!”

“You set Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) up. You shot me, left me to die. you killed your own son there is a special place in hell for you and that’s exactly where you’re going after you spend a miserable life behind bars,” Steffy coldly said. “Your reign of terror is over. It ends today.” Brava to Jacqueline MacInnes Wood for honoring Finn’s life by reading her husband’s killer for filth!

Honorable Mention: Kudos to Jacqueline MacInnes Wood’s scene partner Kimberlin Brown. She plays Sheila as the perpetual wronged party. No matter who Sheila shoots, no matter how many lives she destroys, Brown plays her character as the put-upon victim. It’s always someone else’s fault as far as she’s concerned. Brown’s Sheila was so convincing as she tried to deconstruct Steffy’s theory that she’d shot Finn, we had to remind ourselves that Sheila is guilty, guilty, guilty!
