CBS’s Beyond the Gates scored 15 Daytime Emmy nominations — a huge feat for a hit show in its first year of eligibility. What the rookie soap did in its debut wasn’t just incredible. Its very presence helped liven up the competition in the daytime drama categories. Going from four soaps to five further upped the stakes and made the anticipation of the nominations much sweeter. There was no predicting the outcome because BTG had a chance to change the game. And it did.

Key Takeways

  • Beyond the Gates earned 15 Daytime Emmy nominations in its first year of eligibility.
  • The rookie soap scored major acting, writing, and technical nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series.
  • Its breakthrough success raises the bar for daytime television while marking several historic milestones.

Beyond the Gates Makes an Emmy Splash

BTG’s 15 nominations include one for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series and eight in the acting categories. Tamara Tunie (Anita) and Karla Mosley (Dani) are nominated for Leading Actress.

Featured in the Supporting Actor categories are Trisha Mann-Grant (Leslie), Timon Kyle-Durrett (Bill), and Mike Manning (Smitty). Getting the spotlight in the Emerging Talent space are Ambyr Michelle (Eva) and Arielle Prepetit (Naomi). And Jasmine Burke (June) appears in the Guest Performance category.

Additionally, BTG got much-deserved love for writing, casting, music direction and composition, technical direction, hairstyling/makeup, and more.

Why This Is a New Era for Daytime Soaps

What makes this such a big deal is that, first and foremost, these nominations are based on the first year of BTG’s existence. For a newbie soap to make such a big impact on the nominations is validating and confidence-boosting. Entertainment Weekly put the CBS hit on its top ten list of 2025 for a reason. And now it’s great that this recognition for the cast and crew comes from their daytime peers.

Second, BTG’s addition to the Daytime Emmys race means the competition for the precious few slots is fiercer. There was a time when 13 soaps vied for Emmy statues. That number dwindled down to four remaining soaps. With BTG on the scene, the suspense on Emmy nomination day is higher. It helps make the awards show experience that much more exciting.

Since BTG is the first daytime drama in 35 years to center on a Black family, there’s an opportunity for a more diverse group of nominees. Regarding Tunie and Mosley’s nods — this is the first time two Black actresses have been nominated in the Lead Performer category.

According to BTG writer Jamey Giddens, his boss, Michele Val Jean, has made history. On X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote that Val Jean is the “first Black person to create, executive produce, and head write a Daytime Emmy-nominated soap opera. Congratulations to her, @/SheilaDucks, and the entire BTG fam.”

First-Year Success

BTG was left out of the directing conversation and has no representation in the leading actor category. But what it did accomplish — the 15 nominations plus another for Entertainment Tonight‘s behind-the-scenes five-part series, Beyond the Gates: Welcome to the Neighborhood — is being described as a “historic breakthrough.”

And media outlets are calling BTG a “breakout soap.” It’s the second most-nominated series of the year. The cast and crew will undoubtedly celebrate when the ceremony takes place. Soap Hub will have complete coverage of this year’s nominees, reactions, and award news leading up to the 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, October 30.
