When Andre (Sean Freeman) got home from working all night, Dani (Karla Mosley) confronted him about Babygate and his recent run-in with Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett). Dani listened and agreed with his perspective. And Andre said that he and Dani weren’t the insecure ones. That Bill and Hayley (Marquita Goings) were. That they lived rent-free in Bill and Hayley’s minds.
Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) and Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) talked at Uptown. Once again, Chelsea told her sister that she could be Naomi’s sounding board until Jacob (Jibre Hordges) returned. Naomi asked Chelsea for advice, but had to change some facts, so Chelsea couldn’t offer much help.
While Naomi was at the hospital, Chelsea met up with her mom, who mentioned wanting to team up for an upcoming Tatum Stewart fashion show. Chelsea shot down Dani’s idea harshly. But ultimately, Dani’s comeback should be about her alone, Chelsea noted. Dani understood but told Andre it hurt her that Chelsea didn’t want to work with her at all.
Marcel’s divorce was final, and as a result, his fancy evening with Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) evolved into a celebration. While we didn’t actually see Marcel (Darryl W. Handy) in the entire episode, he and Leslie ended up at Joey’s casino so Marcel could start winning back some of the money he’d lost in the divorce.
Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) and Joey (Jon Lindstrom) talked about friendships. Vanessa cherished hers. And she’s happy that she took Joey’s advice and repaired her relationship with Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix). She didn’t understand why Joey didn’t do the friend thing. He claimed he loved being a loner.
Vanessa and Leslie had a civil conversation in the back room of Joey’s casino, bonding a little. Vanessa got to see a different side of Leslie, and maybe even related to her after their talk. Meanwhile, Vanessa tried to get Joey to bond with Marcel, but Joey said he didn’t need friends.
Smitty (Mike Manning) and Jacob reconnected in Jacob and Naomi’s hotel room. Jacob let Smitty know he’d been roughed up for changing the drop-off location. Smitty refused to drop the investigation. He did let Jacob know that when he’s not working on plasma ring business, he had security following him and had access to a panic button.
Plus, he did some digging on Grayson’s female lab coworkers. There was someone named Rachel with a suspicious background. Later, at the hospital, Grayson (Jordi Vilasuso) and Jacob met up in the elevator. Jacob filled him in on being roughed up. And tried to get more intel out of Grayson, who didn’t give away a thing.
Grayson called Derek (Ben Gavin) to see if he could volunteer at the free clinic. Derek told him hard pass. When Derek and Ashley (Jen Jacob) ran into each other at Orphey Gene’s, Ashley got into it with Derek over his rejecting Grayson. Derek said he didn’t want her sketchy boyfriend anywhere near the clinic. He told her about how Grayson rifled through the clinic at the opening. Ashley was shocked. She thought Derek was lying. Naomi backed Derek up.

Martin (Brandon Claybon) confided in Vernon (Clifton Davis), worried his past would ruin his future. The Senate talk has triggered memories of that night, when racists accosted Vernon and Martin, resulting in Martin killing someone. He’s still clearly affected by that night. But at the same time, he wants to run for a higher office.
Vanessa and Dani talked about Joey. She, once again, took issue with somebody who didn’t agree with her entering a relationship with a known criminal. But Dani won’t judge. Dani and Nicole updated each other on their conversations with Joey and Vanessa. But they soon shifted their focus to Madison (Kenjah) and her impending lawsuit. Nicole let her sister know that a lawsuit can be damaging to a doctor, even if it’s just rumors, or even if she wins it outright. There could be ramifications for Madison, and that’s not good.
Tomas (Alex Alegria) and Hayley ran into each other while getting coffee. They talked about becoming. friends again. Tomas set up an appreciation lunch with Caroline (Ellie Wang), but it seemed like this was all part of him trying to get information on Lynette (Dominique Madison). The junior partner then met up with his PI, who gave him new intel. That Lynette was actively looking for a penthouse, and Vanessa was her real estate agent.
Meanwhile, Bill and Hayley had a chat about Lynette, but as a distraction, Hayley brought up BabyGate. Bill tried to explain his actions, but it wasn’t easy. Hayley acted upset. Bill asked Caroline to set up a meeting with Natalie, his financial person. He wanted her to do a little forensic accounting to see if anyone had been messing with his money.

Martin was determined to run for the Senate, however. Elsewhere, Bill and Hayley continued fighting over BabyGate. And his forensic accountant called him to say that Hayley had cleaned out one of their accounts. Hayley came up with a flimsy excuse.

Grayson kept trying to reach Jacob, but he couldn’t pick up. So that left Grayson one choice. He showed up at Ashley’s, who was busy getting ready for their date. She had already talked to her mother about some last-minute necessities. When she opened the door to her apartment, there was Grayson, really hurt. And he needed Ashley’s help.

From afar, he watched Martin and Smitty get into an argument. Martin told his husband about his potential Senate run. Smitty got mad that it took Martin this long to tell him. That they had already been through this with a possible presidential run. That the bodies were still buried. But Martin said he wanted to run for higher office.
After Smitty left, Joey sauntered over to Martin and offered to do the congressman another favor. He could provide undetectable security for Smitty if he wanted, since Smitty had denied security except in certain cases. Martin basically told Joey that owing him one favor was enough. Meanwhile, thanks to Jacob’s text, Smitty showed up at the hospital looking to find Grayson. He didn’t find him.
Vanessa surprised Anita and Vernon at their place. And she brought a gift for Anita. They reconnected, and Vanessa let them know she had been thinking about them. She also ended up having a one-to-one conversation with Anita, and of course, it was about Joey. Anita told Vanessa to watch her back with him. At Ashley’s, things got a little sticky when Jan (Jerri Tubbs) let herself in after Ashley didn’t answer the door. Ashley hid Grayson in the bathroom, where he writhed in pain, ignoring Jacob’s calls.
Eventually, Ashley got her mom to leave, but it took a minute, and then she continued caring for Grayson. But now she wanted to know exactly who she was dating. He told her he would tell her everything when he could, but for now, broad strokes.
Chelsea questioned Bill about Hayley when they were all spending time together at Uptown. Hayley went to the bar and flirted with the bartender. And then doubled back, sat in the booth in front of Bill and Chelsea, so she could eavesdrop. But Bill mostly defended his wife and explained away his connection to Dani and his calling her “Baby.” Also, Bill replaced Hayley’s “stolen” ring
