Ever since the debut of Beyond the Gates on CBS, fans have been glued to their seats by the compelling characters and storylines. Viewers have particularly been thrilled by the antics of Dani, who’s not only reeling from her divorce from Bill but also by his subsequent marriage to his paralegal, Hayley Lawson. Timon Kyle Durrett and Marquita Goings recently opened up about the fun they have playing these interesting and dynamic new soap characters.
She Steps Outside Herself
Goings and Durrett had a conversation with Soap Opera Digest about playing Hayley and Bill respectively. The interviewer remarked that they appeared to be having fun on-screen, and Goings responded that she was enjoying the freedom of playing her character, which allows her to “Step outside of myself.”
She truly likes working with Durrett, who keeps the mood light on set. “In between takes, Timon is cracking jokes and has us laughing,” she remarked. Goings particularly relishes being able to joke around behind the scenes and then return to play her character, “delusional Hayley.”

Joking Around Helps Build Their Chemistry
While “Big Bad Bill” (as she calls her screen partner’s character) is very serious and ruthless, Durrett explained that he also likes to work with Goings, who is nothing like her character at all. Noting all the laughter and joking that happens behind the scenes, he enthused, “We play on camera and off camera; it’s just a cool dynamic.”
He further explained that rehearsing is good for them so they can learn each others’ nuances in playing their characters. “We get to learn the different things that we can do that add to the realism and to the chemistry of Bill and Hayley,” he stated. The actor felt that by playing around as they do, they built on their on-screen dynamic and make it enjoyable for the viewer, which he likens to “having a good meal.” (Learn how Durrett is different from Bill.)
