Joey Messes Up With Vanessa
Joey (Jon Lindstrom) and Vanessa’s relationship is strong, but also built on a shaky foundation. Deanna (Angela Fairley) doesn’t want to hear about them. And Vanessa’s closest friends — the Duprees — keep warning her about the man. In Vanessa’s perfect universe, everybody would be on board with her and Joey, with no doubts or debates.
Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) and Joey are two very different people, however. She thrives in the company of other people. Meanwhile, he’s a loner who doesn’t need friends. He won’t even get in touch with his estranged sister. He’s been thinking about her, but he won’t do anything about it.
On Thursday, Joey does something that upsets the apple cart. He steps into a mess, potentially of his own making. Whatever Joey does, let’s hope for his sake that he can easily dig himself out of the hole he’s created.
Cotilion Chaos Rises to the Surface
The Cotillion has been a popular topic amongst the Duprees for months now. Samantha (Najah Jackson) is one of the debutantes coming out. And Tyrell (Jaden Lucas Miller) is Jessica’s (Camryn Jade) escort. The event has been a source of conflict, backstabbing, and gossip. Samantha’s main competition for Platinum Deb is Francesca “Chessy” Belleclaire (Madison Alsobrook), granddaughter of Fairmont Crest Country Club’s resident gossip, Anastasia Belleclaire (Timeca Seretti).
The Belleclaires battle Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) and bully Samantha on Thursday. Samantha is already nervous enough that she won’t do well at the Cotillion. If Chessy wins Platinum Deb, Samantha will be upset, even if no one else in the family is pressuring her to earn the honor. Who will win this pre-game showdown: the Duprees or the Belleclaires?
Next Phase of Anita’s Cancer Journey
Anita (Tamara Tunie) proudly rang the victory bell in Monday’s episode. She had her final chemotherapy session. And now she and Vernon (Clifton Davis) are looking to the future, and they are happy and grateful to do it. On their Wednesday agenda: they discuss what’s next with Dr. Bauer (Ivan Moore). This is where Anita needs to make the decision to go with a lumpectomy or a mastectomy. To be here, roughly five months into the journey, is a big win. But they have to keep up the fight and weigh these options carefully.

With the cotillion just about to start, Donnell (Alex Cheeks) is back in town. He’s Samantha’s escort. He’s done this before, so he’s the perfect person to take her to the ball. And he’s also the perfect person to help the teen fend off Chessy’s verbal and cyber attacks. However, he’s about to receive a surprising gesture that leaves him emotional. Will the gesture have something to do wth his late dad?
Finally, it’s been a minute since Mona (Karan Kendrick) and Randy (Maurice P. Kerry, who spoke about Randy and Mona) crossed paths. By now, there’s a good chance that Randy has forgotten the slap upside his head Mona gave him when she spotted him getting racy with Lynette (Dominique Madison) in the middle of Orphey Gene’s. Look for the two to interact. And this time Mona’s words affect Randy. Maybe because Lynette isn’t around to distract or tempt him.
