We knew Hayley (Marquita Goings) had something she was sure would keep her out of prison. All she had to do was tell Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett). Did she know that Bill and Dani (Karla Mosley) slept together the night of the tornado? Did she stumble upon something shady while she was doing her paralegal thing at the office?
Nope. Her diabolical plan included recording Bill at home and at the office. And in the process, she learned all about Martin (Brandon Claybon) killing the racist thug a couple of years ago when he defended himself and Vernon (Clifton Davis).
Anita (Tamara Tunie), Bill, Ted (Keith D. Robinson), Elon (Malachi Malik), Marcel (Darryl W. Handy), and Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) all helped Vernon and Martin cover up that secret.
Bill tried to keep it a secret from Hayley, but her learning about it from the recordings will likely keep her from facing the consequences of her evil actions.
How It Affects the Duprees
Hayley hates the Duprees. And leaking anything about that night and especially their cover-up, will ruin 1) The Duprees’ reputation and standing in the community, and 2) Martin’s re-election chances. The election is coming up in just over a month. For now, it’s smooth sailing, but there are multiple things that could ruin his chances of returning to Congress.
The threat of this massive secret getting leaked won’t just cause chaos. It’ll cause trauma for Martin. He is still affected by what he had to do back then. And covering it up almost ruined his marriage. But add that to what Smitty (Mike Manning) is currently going through, and Martin’s chances of re-election are shrinking.
How Hayley Will Benefit and Everyone Else Will Suffer
You can tell that Hayley has been relying on the con game for a long time. Her negotiation and research skills are on point. And if all goes through, she will walk away with millions, the house in St. Bart’s, and she will get to leave town unscathed. She also gets an advance.
In the very near future, she could be free to either retire as she wanted or live to con again. Let’s hope that she doesn’t head to Genoa City. Kyle Abbott (Young and the Restless‘s Michael Mealor) is kind of busy right now.
As for the Duprees, they won’t be experiencing peace anytime soon. Sorry, Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla). Sure, their reputations may be intact if Hayley stays quiet, but seeing her walk free won’t be good. Hayley wreaked havoc on the family that she hates. And she would leave behind a devastated family.
A family that won’t understand why Bill let Hayley go. Will he tell everyone why? And we’re not convinced that Hayley’s going to leave town anytime soon. Also, what else is on those recordings? Bill was good to ask for her to hand them over — the copies, too.
