On Beyond the Gates, Timon Kyle Durrett’s character, Bill Hamilton, is a ruthless lawyer who stops at nothing to get what he wants. When his marriage to Dani was hitting rock bottom, he dumped her and married Hayley, enraging his ex-wife. Durrett recently opened up about how different he and his on-screen alter ego are.
Bill Is a Shark
Durrett spoke to TV Insider and explained that throughout his career, he would often “get typecast as the bad guy.” Bill is a force to be reckoned with in Fairmont Crest, and Durrett pondered his character’s motivations, noting, “I don’t know if this guy’s a bad guy, but when I saw some of the material, I said, ‘Yeah, I want to play this guy.’ It was exciting. I’m the opposite of who Bill is.”
He remarked that his co-workers will confirm he likes to fool around on the set, as well as sharing Dad jokes and telling some wild tales. But when the need arises, “I transform into [Bill].” Durrett likened Bill to a shark, explaining that like the deadly fish, Bill metaphorically sticks his fin out of the water, showing he’s dangerous.

He’s Nothing Like Bill
But he admitted the major point where he and Bill differ. His character “has no problem with asserting himself,” but conversely, “I can’t do it in real life, but to be able to play it in the world of Beyond the Gates is so much fun.” He then pointed out that he likes the character of Bill, who “has soft spots for his daughters and his wife, but for everyone else, man, this dude is sandpaper and thorns.”
Durrett further explained that Bill has no problem being aggressive when it’s called for. He also noted that being on the new show is amazing because they’re at the start of an exciting new soap dynasty. “We are the seed that’s going to make the tree of Beyond the Gates grow,” he said, adding, “and that’s probably the most special part of it because it doesn’t go any further back than us.”
Ultimately, Durrett feels, “It’s fun to play this person who I’m nothing like.” (Find out how BTG gets betrayal right.)
