Jon Lindstrom is one of Daytime’s leading men. He has been a part of the community for 40 years, with his start on Santa Barbara. Lindstrom might be most recognizable as Kevin Collins on General Hospital or his twin brother, Ryan Chamberlain. However, the actor’s move to CBS’ Beyond the Gates has highlighted his ability to play the bad boy by casting him as Joey Armstrong.

Key Takeaways

  • Joey Armstrong’s Complex Character Arc
  • Career Renaissance for a Daytime Veteran

Jon Lindstrom Highlights Acting Versatility as Joey Armstrong

When BTG debuted earlier this year, Jon Lindstrom was part of the cast. The Joey Armstrong role differed significantly from his Dr. Kevin Collins role on GH. The announcement that he would join the newest CBS soap was welcomed, as Lindstrom hadn’t been utilized much in Port Charles despite having ample storyline possibilities.

Joey is as corrupt as they come, but has feelings he can’t deny. He fights the battle between good and evil internally and isn’t afraid to take extreme measures to get what he wants. Lindstrom teased that Joey would be a different character for him, and it highlights his versatility by encompassing the layers that define him.

Although it may have taken some time to get to know Joey and understand his perspective, the last few months have highlighted his connections within the community. He is in bed with the cops, has protection through his casinos, was involved in a shaky alliance with the Duprees, and has attracted the attention of Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli).

Ahead of the first November sweeps period for BTG, Lindstrom’s Joey is heavily involved in what happened to Vanessa’s husband. He not only organized the deadly car crash but also framed it around Doug’s (Jason Graham) drinking. This storyline has given him a front-and-center purpose, showcasing his acting talents while delivering entertainment.

Joey Armstrong is More Complex Than Kevin Collins

When Jon Lindstrom moved from GH to BTG, it opened up a broader showcase for his acting talents. Lindstrom and Michele Val Jean have a long-standing working relationship, and having them reunite was the perfect storm. Joey Armstrong is vastly different than Kevin Collins, and playing the edgy character works well.

Kevin was a decent guy and a run-of-the-mill character in Port Charles. Much of his time on the ABC soap was spent co-parenting baby Ace with Laura (Genie Francis). Even today, Kevin and Ace aren’t mentioned much.

Meanwhile, Joey has become an essential player on the CBS soap. He has relationships with the police and Bill (Timon Kyle Durret). His affair with Vanessa is red hot. He is the ultimate bad boy and is attractive to the real estate broker. He has his hands in several ventures, and when it’s time to pay, he ensures he gets what he’s owed.

Lindstrom is an incredibly talented actor who has been in the business for several decades. Moving to BTG from GH was an excellent move, and it could pay off when the Daytime Emmy nominations come out in 2026.
