After a recent Brown Dog scene featuring Brad’s go-to drink, General Hospital’s Parry Shen put his mixology skills to the test. He reverse-engineered the Pomegranate Cosmogroni and created a Cosmo-Negroni hybrid with a special twist.
Key Takeaways
- Parry Shen recreated Brad’s signature drink from General Hospital.
- He reverse-engineered the recipe and shared a full demo online.
- The cocktail blends classic flavors with a fresh, modern twist.
The Bartender Is In
In his Instagram post, Shen decided to channel his cocktail-making skills to recreate his character’s favorite drink. The actor might as well know what it tastes like. And whether it’s worthy of being Brad Cooper’s favorite.
Shen goes on to say, “Follow me on this 5 minute journey, where we will reverse-engineer the recipe derived solely from the drink’s name alone, discuss proper glassware & figure out how the heck to juice a pomegranate!”
The Recipe
Much like cocktail recipe influencers, the GH star included the drink recipe and instructions.
BRAD COOPER’S
POMEGRANATE COSMOGRONI
______
1 oz Gin
¾ oz Vodka
¾ oz Campari
½ oz Sweet Vermouth
½ oz Orange Liqueur
½ oz Fresh lime juice 🍋🟩
¾ oz Fresh pomegranate juice
Shake well with ice and double strain. Garnish with a lime wheel and speared pomegranate arils.
The Demo
In Shen’s demo, the actor-turned-mixologist broke down the recipe. The Cosmogroni blends the popular Cosmopolitan, a drink made famous during the OG run of Sex and the City.
“It consists of 2 ounces of vodka, 1/4 ounce of triple sec or orange liqueur. Or an ounce of cranberry juice and some lime juice.”
The second part of the equation was the Negroni, an Italian beverage that originated in 1919. Shen apparently learned how to make the drink by watching Stanley Tucci during COVID.
“This is the Negroni, and it consists of equal parts of gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth,” Shen continued.
The pomegranate element provided a fun, modern twist. Adding it involved a lot of muddling just to create 3/4 oz. of the liquid goodness. But Shen was bound and determined to make the best version of Brad’s favorite alcoholic libation. He compared the muddling part of the demo to an iconic classic sitcom scene.
“I feel like Lucille Ball doing the grape episode, the wine, remember?”
While Shen may think Brad is high-maintenance and that the drink is a “pain-in-the-butt” to make, in the end, he knew it was worth it. Since the Pomegranate Cosmogroni is a hybrid beverage, he chose a glass that would be perfect for the occasion. After the muddling, the double-straining, adding the temperate ice cube, and skewering the pomegranate arils for the garnish, Shen was done.
The Results and the Feedback
It was time for him to taste his creation, Brad’s Pomegranate Cosmogroni. “Flavor profile of the Negroni because of the Campari. But not as bitter, because we’ve added a lot of other things to sort of mellow it out a bit. It’s very refreshing. I can see why this is Brad’s choice of drink.”
Shen’s Cosmogroni scene partner, Kelly Thiebaud (Britt), replied to her co-star’s post. She said, “Love this 😂.”
One of Shen’s fans raved about his effort and his video in his replies. “Omggg love this Parry!!! Cant believe u made the drink so glad it turned out refreshing still. Thanks 4 sharing it with us hope to see u on GH more 🩷😂🍹🧊.”
