Three-time Daytime Emmy winner Michael E. Knight, beloved as Tad on All My Children, has always entertained as his General Hospital character Martin Gray. However, the show gave the actor – and viewers – a holiday bonus with a script that let the actor truly shine in one of the show’s recent Christmas episodes. Read on to see why Soap Hub has bestowed Performer of the Week honors on Knight for his work.

Michael  E. Knight – Performer of the Week

As soon as viewers caught the pairing of Lynn Herring (Lucy Coe) and Knight in a holiday promo where it appeared the two were stepping on each other’s lines accidentally on purpose, it was apparent the two had a great deal of fun chemistry. Both actors are adept at doing something that’s quite difficult — successfully bringing comedy to daytime drama.

Knight brought charm and intimacy to the pillow talk between Martin and Lucy after they woke up in bed the day after a holiday celebration at General Hospital. It’d have been easy for either of them to say post-romp, ‘Well, that was fun. Let’s stay in touch on social media,’ but neither were ready to bolt out the door. In fact, Martin embraced the idea of him and Lucy walking into the Metro Court restaurant arm in arm and letting folks surmise that they’d spent the night together.

Pairing Lucy and Martin comes with built-in dynamics as Lucy’s ex, Kevin (Jon Lindstrom), is wed to Martin’s half-sister Laura (Genie Francis). When the new lovers made their entrance, they, well, made an entrance! ‘Let ‘em look at us!’ was the couple’s attitude! Kevin and Laura were among the restaurant patrons and couldn’t help but notice the couple’s arrival.

Lucy interpreted Laura not talking about her to Martin as the silent treatment – meant as a sign of her disapproval. She made her mind up to extricate herself from Martin to ward off any heartache. However, Michael E. Knight reminded us that he’s also capable of handling drama as well as comedy when he stopped Lucy from leaving, stepping into leading man mode as Martin told Lucy he wasn’t ready for the fun to end. Her smile indicated that neither was she. That suits us just fine as we’re hoping to see much more of Lucy and Martin in 2022!

Honorable Mention: As any great actor will tell you, a scene simply isn’t going to work if your partner isn’t going to hit the ball back. Kudos, of course, go to Herring for her performance as Lucy in these episodes. She went from being miffed by Laura’s return earlier in the week to finding a spark with her brother. Matching Lucy and Martin works so well because both stars are bringing their A-game to this pairing!
