Another Kyle Abbott is about to resurface in Genoa City when daytime newcomer Michael Mealor takes over the role of Jack’s son.
So far, the oft recast character has been a bust on The Young and the Restless. Since Kyle was aged to 20-something in 2012, three actors have tackled the role — Blake Hood, Hartley Sawyer and Lachlan Buchanan. Not one has reached the two-year mark. Hopefully, the fourth time will be the charm with Mealor.
Here are seven things to know about Kyle.
1 Diane named her son Christian Victor Newman, believing Victor (Eric Braeden) was his dad, when she had herself inseminated with stolen sperm she believed was his. When it was revealed that Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) had switched out Victor’s sample and Jack (Peter Bergman) was Diane’s sperm donor, she renamed her son Kyle Jenkins Abbott.
2 Kyle was 10 before he got to know his dad, and he has Jack’s late wife, Emily (Stacy Haiduk), to thank for it. She asked Diane to return to Genoa City for a visit so that father and son could bond.
3 In a weird twist, Victor ended up Kyle’s stepfather, when Diane later married him. Kyle lived on the Newman ranch, where Victor showered him with gifts. After Diane was murdered, Jack and Kyle learned she’d left her son’s legal guardianship to Victor. Jack tore up the papers and sent Kyle to boarding school.

4 Brainy Kyle grew up to be a Harvard graduate. He interned on Wall Street in New York and has worked at Newman-Chancellor, Jabot Cosmetics and Newman Enterprises, over the years.
5 When Kyle learned that Jack was abusing pain medication, he took drastic measures. He leaked the story to the press in the hopes of forcing his father to seek the help he needed.
6 Kyle’s first GC romance was with Eden Baldwin, but he soon turned his attention to Summer Newman (Hunter King). Phyllis and Nick sabotaged the relationship, wrongly believing Jack was Summer’s bio daddy. When that was proven untrue, Kyle and Summer resumed dating, but things eventually fizzled between them.
7 Kyle played a key role when Ashley (Eileen Davidson) called a board meeting for a confidence vote to determine whether she or Jack should be in charge of Jabot. After Traci (Beth Maitland) gave her support to Jack, causing a tie, Kyle’s vote arrived via courier. To Jack’s surprise, his son voted “no confidence” in his father, ousting him and putting Ashley at the helm.
