May is the month in which networks announce their fall TV lineups so viewers find out which series will be renewed, added, and, sadly, which beloved shows will be ending their runs — and now comes word about NBC’s decision about This Is Us.
It’s no surprise that the NBC drama, This Is Us, is coming back for a fourth season this fall, but it was announced today by the peacock network that the family drama, which is told over several time periods, has been renewed for a 4th, 5th, and 6th (!) season!
“In a television landscape with nearly 500 original scripted series, there are very few, if any, that have the critical and cultural impact of This Is Us, and we couldn’t be more proud to bring fans three more seasons of a show,” said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Presidents of Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment.
“A huge thank you and congratulations to our executive producers, cast and crew who reach new heights every week with the show’s inventive and compelling storytelling.”
This Is Us tells the story of the Pearson family. While patriarch Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) has passed away, he still appears in lengthy flashbacks in stories that reveal more about the clan. In the Season 3 finale, Toby (Chris Sullivan) and Kate (Chrissy Metz) were dealing with the arrival of their premature son.
Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) reached a compromise after their marriage hit an impasse (whew!). Kevin (Justin Hartley) began drinking again and split from Zoe (Melanie Liburd). Mandy Moore (Beth) stars as the family matriarch.
What’s up for Season 4? “Next season is a season of new beginnings and restarts,” previewed series creator Dan Fogelman last winter.
