Good news, Law & Order: SVU fans! The beloved series is officially returning for a record-breaking 21st season next fall. But the news wasn’t good for everyone.
The exciting announcement was made on Friday, March 29. It didn’t take long for the show’s production company and its stars to react to the news.
“Its official! @nbcsvu is coming back for the fall season and becomes the longest running television drama series in HISTORY. We love you,” Wolf Entertainment tweeted.
Star Mariska Hargitay, who has been there since the first episode as Olivia Benson, shared her thoughts with her followers on Twitter.
“20 years ago, we started a conversation. We’re not finished. I’m profoundly proud of how far we’ve come. Prouder still of how far we’ll go. We’ve all broken this ground together.”
Ice-T, who portrays Odafin Tutuola, also took to Twitter to share his excitement for Season 21.
“SVU has been OFFICIALLY picked up for season #21. Making us the longest running drama in Television History!” he wrote.
“Respect to the man Dick Wolf @NBCUniversal @Mariska @KelliGiddish @PeterScanavino @philipwinchestr and all my past and present Cast and Crew! And definetly [sic] ALL the fans!”
But the news wasn’t good for the entire cast. Relative newcomer Philip Winchester, who has played DA Peter Stone for 35 episodes, revealed that he will not be coming back for the new season.
“I want to congratulate the cast and crew of @nbcsvu for making history today. Also to thank everyone for two great seasons. I have learned much and enjoyed being part of an elite unit. Here’s to you all and a historic run!
“Sadly for me, Peter stone and his “the facts don’t care about you’re feelings” attitude will not be returning. A huge tip of the hat to my amazing fans and not so big of fans. You ALL make me work harder. Thank you! See you on the next adventure.”
