Jesse Williams is celebrating his 38th birthday today and while he’s probably received many phone calls and text messages from close friends and family, his Grey’s Anatomy onscreen mama, Debbie Allen, made sure to mark his special day too.
Allen, who of course will be forever remembered for playing Lydia Grant in the film and on the TV show of the same name — Fame — and who has played Catherine Fox on Grey’s since 2011, took to social media to share a sweet selfie with her onscreen son, who turned 38 years old.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY @ijessewilliams!” she captioned the photo of the pair on set. This comes just one week after the entire cast began shooting Season 16 of the popular ABC medical drama.
In fact, Allen shared a picture of herself with Kelly McCreary, who plays Maggie Pierce, and Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, on Sunday, July 28, saying, “We’re back!!! @ellenpompeo @seekellymccreary #greysanatomy.”

Williams also posted a photo of himself to Instagram from the makeup chair with the caption, “welcome back.” It will be interesting to see where his character, Jackson, stands with Maggie since it looked like that relationship blew up in the season finale.
