If you watch NBC’s The Good Place, there’s a great chance you know who D’Arcy Carden is. The actress plays Janet — a robot who knows everything and also nothing at the same time — and absolutely kills it. Carden has also been in a number of other shows, including Broad City and Barry.
But, with The Good Place returning for its fourth and final season this fall, here are five fast facts you need to know about D’Arcy Carden.
In the Beginning
Carden was born January 4, 1980, and raised in Danville, California, which is in the northern part of the state. She has two sisters, Miranda and Laney, as well as a brother, Will. She ended up graduating Southern Oregon University with a Bachelors in Fine Arts in Theater.
Why The Apostrophe?
Carden was born Darcy Carden, but she decided to add an apostrophe to her name when she was in junior high to copy D’arcy Wretzky, who’s in the band The Smashing Pumpkins.
SNL Alum’s Babysitter
Carden moved out to New York City to pursue a career in acting and met Saturday Night Live alum, Bill Hader. He actually asked her if she’d like to nanny his kids on the side, which she did for a number of years. She has since been on his HBO show, Barry.
Improv Beginnings
When Carden moved out to New York she started taking classes at the Uprights Citizens Brigade Theater. She progressed with the group and even ended up touring with them.
First Big Role
Though she’s had a number of small roles over the years, Carden’s first big role is as Janet on NBC’s The Good Place. She has been on the show for all three seasons.
