Days of Our Lives cryptically announced new cast members Cherie Jimenez and Al Calderon recently.
Speculations About Who They’ll Be Playing
On April 10, 2024, the official DAYS Instagram page posted a photo of two actors who’ve never been seen in Salem before, captioning it, “We’re seeing some newcomers in Salem! Meet Cherie Jimenez and Al Calderon – Hmmmm, who could they be?!?!⏳”
Speculation ran rampant across the internet, ranging from a Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) and Ciara (Victoria Konefal) recast to a Stefan (Brandon Barash) and Gabi (Camila Banus) recast. Considering Wilson is currently playing Alex Kiriakis in a front-burner story, the chances of Ben being recast are unlikely since he’s clearly available to play both.

There’s no indication that either Barash or Konefal are exiting either, leaving one obvious choice: Jimenez will be playing Gabi Hernandez, and Calderon is a Dario Hernandez recast. Considering Banus vacated the role to pursue other career options as well as focus on her family, and Gabi’s been mentioned quite a bit while she stews in prison for allegedly killing Li Shin (Remington Hoffman), it was only a matter of time before they recast her. The meddling spitfire is sorely missed.
Dario was last seen in 2017 when he was portrayed by Jordi Vilasuso. Police Commissioner Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering), their brother, needs to get back on track and find out who really killed Li and free his sister. He’s been alone in Salem for far too long, and his brother’s return would be just what he needs. Calderon has been jumping around the TV dial, appearing on shows such as Person of Interest and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, so he’s probably looking for more steady work such as what a sudser can offer.
Ever the jokester, Daniel Feuerriegel (E.J. DiMera) responded to the Instagram question with, “Definitely Ren & Stimpy.” A representative for the two cartoon characters has not returned our calls, but we’re putting money on a Gabi/Dario return.
