Y&R Wild Spec: Will Justin Hartley Return To Help Melissa Claire Egan Exit?

According to published reports, Melissa Claire Egan is set to exit The Young and the Restless later this year. Like many actors who quit their soap gig, she’ll have the opportunity to test the primetime waters with more availability.

Actors who’ve left Y&R to do this have done well. Successful primetime alumni from Genoa City include S.W.A.T.’s Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm), Life In Pieces’ Hunter King (Summer), and Desperate Housewives’ Eva Longoria (ex-Isabella).

Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) recently found some money hidden away in the bathroom so Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) may have some secrets she’s been keeping from the man she loves.

If Chelsea’s unlawful ways resurface and she needs to hightail it out of town, who better to go off into the sunset with than Adam?

Maybe her good pal Justin Hartley, current primetime star on This Is Us and the last actor to play Adam, will take time out of his busy schedule and shoot a few episodes of Y&R to facilitate this?

Viewers could learn that Adam is alive (which they already suspect), and he could take Chelsea and their two sons — Connor and Christian — out of town.

If the show doesn’t recast Chelsea, this is an option if it could be worked out. Daytime fans have seen short returns by successful stars. The biggest example is Julianne Moore who once again played Frannie on As the World Turns, long after she became a mega-movie star.

Egan herself reprised her role as Annie on All My Children in that show’s final months. And let’s not forget that Thad Luckinbill, now a successful film producer, has come back to Y&R not for not just a few shows, but for a few months!

Will viewers get a final scene with Hartley’s Adam and Egan’s Chelsea? It could happen!
