Melissa Ordway shoots many of her scenes on The Young and the Restless in the show’s oldest and most iconic set — the Chancellor mansion. While Katherine’s home has gone through some changes over the years, Ordway says that Mrs. Chancellor’s portrait hanging in the living room is an addition to the home that warms her heart.
Melissa Ordway: Home Sweet Home
“The Chancellor home is such an iconic set,” Melissa Ordway tells Soap Hub of the iconic Y&R set. “It’s like Victor Newman‘s (Eric Braeden) office and the Abbott living room; they’ve stayed pretty much the same over the years.” The actress would know. Prior to joining The Young and the Restless, she was a longtime viewer of the CBS serial. “I remember turning on the show and watching it with my mom when I was little. You know the long-running sets on the show. There’s Crimson Lights, too.”
Young and the Restless: Abby’s Many Homes
As Abby is wed to a Chancellor (Chance) and has both Abbott and Newman blood running through her veins, courtesy of parents Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) and Victor Newman, she’s had reason to work in these long-standing Y&R sets. “It’s always a ‘pinch me’ moment to be able to work in the Chancellor living room,” Ordway says. “To look up and see Katherine and Jeanne [Cooper] watching over you is such a cool feeling. I’m so thankful. The set went through a renovation [when Billy Abbott lived there] but the show changed a lot of it back.”
Katherine Chancellor’s Legacy
Melissa Ordway supports the show’s decision that returned Katherine’s home to a more familiar color scheme. “I’m glad it’s back to nearly the way it was,” the actress says with a smile. “It’s iconic! You can’t change that. It’s Katherine Chancellor‘s house.”
